In the pickle industry, salt is used as brine to which fresh cucumbers are added. A selective fermentation then proceeds which is governed by salt concentration. Cost and time are dictating a movement toward "fresh-pack" pickles, in which salt and spices are added with the fresh cucumber, the jar is sealed, and the whole package is heated for pasteurization preservation. 1, record 2, English, - fresh%2Dpack%20pickles

Magnetic sealing is used where heavy polyolefin package members are to be sealed. A gasket, shaped to fit between the sealing faces of the two package members, is made from the same thermoplastic as the package, but has milled into it an iron-containing compound that has a high hysteresis loss. The package portions are pressed together with the gasket between their sealing surfaces and placed in a magnetic field oscillating at a frequency high enough to melt the gasket. This in turn melts the sealing surfaces and causes them to weld together. As an alternative to a gasket, an iron-containing material can be preapplied to one or both of the sealing surfaces, producing the same result. 2, record 14, English, - magnetic%20sealing

Hot melt sealing : In this sealing method, either a continuous strip or dots of molten thermoplastic material is applied between the two surfaces to be sealed, just before they are pressed together. The hot melt contains sufficient heat to cause it to adhere to the package members to be sealed together, and the package members have the heat absorbing capacity to chill the seal before pressure is relieved. 1, record 15, English, - hot%20melt%20sealing
