S. forces worldwide during peacetime and in war for as long as operational requirements dictate. During a war, more than 95 percent of all equipment and supplies needed to sustain the U. In addition, in January 2000 the Minister announced the [Canadian Forces’(CF) ] intention to establish a combat-ready strike force ready to respond rapidly to global crises in the context of NATO or UN [United Nations] mandated missions. Central to achieving the capability will be strategic lift, an area where the CF has only limited resources. Its Hercules and Polaris aircraft are often overworked, and the CF has no dedicated sea lift assets.
