The roll-on closure is used in the food, carbonated beverage, and pharmaceutical markets where pressure sealing is required ... A widely used version today is the tamper-evident roll-on [closure]. A tear band perforated along the bottom of the closure skirt is tucked under a locking ring during capping by a special roller. When opened by the consumer, the band separates from the closure to provide visible evidence of tampering.

Supplied as an unthreaded cap that is placed over the sealing area of the container. Then, under controlled top-pressure, the skirt is pressed against the threads by a rotating head equipped with rollers that press the metal with sufficient force to make it conform to the finish on the container, thus forming threads on the cap or closure.

There are two main types of press-on caps : the first is a preformed cap which, when pressed over the container finish, effects its seal on the side and/or top of the container finish by means of a rubber or plastic sealing gasket. A typical induction innerseal consists of a pulp board liner, a layer of wax, aluminum foil, and a polymer that is compatible with the lid of the plastic container. As the container and cap pass under the induction coil, a varying magnetic field heats the aluminum foil, which melts the wax and polymer, sealing it to the lip of the container. Thus, the innerseal leaves an hermetic layer of foil and polymer coating on the top of the bottle. If the foil seal is broken, any tampering is immediately apparent to the consumer.
