English

Subject field(s)

DEF

An inflatable band, usually wrapped around the upper arm, that is used along with a sphygmomanometer in measuring arterial blood pressure.

CONT

[A cuff is] a wied encircling band containing a balloon which can be inflated to control the flow of a fluid passing through it by constricting or sealing the conveying vessel. Cuffs are used in spygmomanometry, in the administration of anesthesia, and in providing respiratory assistance.

DEF

A bell jar is a glass vessel open at the bottom and closed on top like a bell. It is used by the semiconductor industry primarily in vacuum operations-the vacuum being created within the bell jar. Accessories include the sealing apparatus between the bell jar and the collar of the vacuum equipment. These are made of neoprene or Viton-O-Ring and covered with vacuum grease that has a very low vapor pressure. A vacuum system using the bell jar as a vacuum vessel has been one of the primary methods of depositing thin films on electronic circuits.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pulp Preparation (papermaking)
CONT

The traditional calcium acid sulfite cook must be carried out at a low pH of about 1. 5 because of the relative insolubility of calcium. A higher pH would cause sealing compounds to precipitate during cooking, leading to a condition known as "liming up" of the digester(i. e., the reaction vessel).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Préparation de la pâte à papier
CONT
