All facial images in Notices and Diffusions submitted by member countries are searched and stored in the facial recognition system, provided they meet the strict quality criteria needed for recognition. Participating member countries can also submit "search only" requests directly to the system, using the Biometric Hub, for example, to carry out a check on a person of interest at border crossings. The results are returned quickly to enable immediate follow-up action, and images are not recorded in the facial image database.

FOPO is an anticipatory mechanism that involves psychological, physiological, and physical activation to avoid rejection. It is also characterized by a hypervigilant social readiness and a relentless scanning of the environment in search of approval. In overvaluing what others might be thinking, we become highly attuned to signals—body language, microexpressions, words, silence, actions, and inactions—of potential rejection. FOPO is an exhaustive attempt to interpret what others are thinking in an effort to preempt a negative evaluation by them. It is not the actual negative opinion that is so problematic—it's the fear of it. Though FOPO does not meet the criteria for clinical diagnosis, it creates significant distress.

Environment Canada has launched People and Jobs, an electronic inventory to help their employees match their skills and career interests with available job opportunities both inside and outside the Department. The system allows users to search for job opportunities by specific criteria such as job group and level or geographic location. It also allows users to input their resumes and make them available to managers who are staffing positions. Although the system was originally designed to help "downsized" employees find alternate employment, the pilot is to use this same system to help broker mobility opportunities for S&T(science and technology) personnel at Environment Canada.
