The fashion trend of the day was for the ladies to line their grey cloaks with red velvet, the colours of the British military uniform. In a show of force, [Captain Jonathan] Prescott assembled the women and had them reverse their cloaks and hold their brooms so as the broom handles looked like musket barrels as they marched on the grounds of Capt. Prescott's house. 2, record 12, French, - aiguille

Edmonton hosted the first Air Show in Canada, at Blatchford Field(now the Municipal Airport) in 1931. In 1947, the Royal Canadian Air Force(RCAF) got involved and called the event Air Force Days. In 1955, the RCAF moved to Namao and the Namao International Air Show was born. That tradition ended in 1994 because of the conversion of Namao to an army base. The 1996 Air Show continues this unbroken string of air shows in Edmonton from 1931. 1, record 13, English, - Namao%20International%20Air%20Show

The atlas describes the opportunities and the free homesteads that were available for prospective immigrants in western Canada. Conventional airborne gravimeters are essentially one-axis instruments which determine the magnitude of gravity by using a highly accurate accelerometer in flight to measure the magnitude of gravity along the local vertical. Although horizontal accelerometers are used on the platform, they are generally of poorer accuracy and are only suitable for supporting the alignment process. They cannot give the direction of the vertical with comparable accuracy. Thus, the term scalar gravimetry is used in this case. This is different with airborne gravity systems based on the principle of measuring the specific force vector by a three-axes inertial system and the aircraft acceleration vector by differential GPS. In this case, the three accelerometers of the inertial system are of the same accuracy and the three acceleration components of the aircraft show only small differences in accuracy due to the geometry of the GPS constellation. Thus, three components of each vector can be estimated with high accuracy and the full gravity disturbance vector can be obtained by differencing the specific force and the aircraft acceleration vector. 2, record 17, English, - specific%20force%20vector

There is one other indicator that the earth is rotating in space. The fact that low pressure regions spin with an anticlockwise motion in the Southern hemisphere, yet in the Northern hemisphere(the high pressure regions) spin with an anticlockwise motion and vice versa raises the question as to what force is being exerted on these winds. Studies of rotating bodies show there is an apparent Coriolis acceleration, which acts sideways on moving objects. Only a Coriolis type acceleration seems to explain the earth's winds and this could only occur if the earth rotates. The fact that the wind direction is always constant is evidence of the earth's consistent rotation. 2, record 18, English, - apparent%20Coriolis%20acceleration

Coriolis (Gustave Gaspard). 2, record 18, French, - acc%C3%A9l%C3%A9ration%20apparente%20de%20Coriolis
