A 17th-century bracket clock worked by weights and surmounted by a bell in a frame. 3, record 1, English, - lantern%20clock
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Originally called "house clocks" or "great chamber clocks, "lantern clocks were renamed as such during the mid-nineteenth century. As their original name suggests, they were designed as simple, functional timepieces, used to regulate the daily routine and activities of the household in which they hung. Their weight-driven movements were stout, reliable, comparatively cheap and were more accurate than contemporary spring clocks... Domestic inventories of the period show that lantern clocks were usually hung in a hall or on a staircase, where sufficient space existed beneath for the drop of their weights and where the sound of their bell or alarm could reverberate through the house. 4, record 1, English, - lantern%20clock

The aims and objects of the federation are : 1. To teach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and all other doctrines of the Christian faith. 2. To proclaim the truth regarding the origin and early history of the Anglo-Celto-Saxon peoples, whether within the English-speaking countries or elsewhere; and to prove their identity with the so-called Lost Tribes of Israel as distinct from the two-tribed House of Judah. 3. To show that God Almighty has placed upon the before-mentioned peoples an unchanging and irrevocable charge and responsibility, in that they are called to act as His servants and His instruments in preparing the way for the establishment of the Kingdom of God under the direct sovereignty of Jesus Christ. 4. To establish as a fact that the said beliefs are supported and confirmed by the Holy Scriptures. 5. The fashion trend of the day was for the ladies to line their grey cloaks with red velvet, the colours of the British military uniform. In a show of force, [Captain Jonathan] Prescott assembled the women and had them reverse their cloaks and hold their brooms so as the broom handles looked like musket barrels as they marched on the grounds of Capt. Prescott's house. The privateer's thought it was a garrison of British soldiers and wasted no time in hightailing it out of the harbour in their three ships. 1, record 3, English, - Turncoat%20Victory%20re%2Denactment

A few parts of the house deserve particular attention... around doors and windows... where the wood-frame wall meets the masonry... around doors into unheated attic... There is an easy way to tell whether or not any of the above areas need work.... make yourself a draft gauge. All you need is a metal clothes hanger, a plastic sandwich bag(or a piece of light tissue paper), a pair of scissors and two clothes pins. Cut the sandwich bag down each side and wrap one end over the cross-bar of the clothes hanger. Use the clothes pins to fasten the bag to the bar. Check for drafts, on a cold day, in all suspected areas. Hold the gauge steady by the handle of the hanger with the plastic bag close to the suspected areas. If any breeze is coming in, the movement of the plastic will show you where. 1, record 5, English, - draft%20gauge
