Qualitative and quantitative studies show that people who consult complementary practitioners usually have longstanding conditions for which conventional medicine has not provided a satisfactory solution, either because it is insufficiently effective or because it causes adverse effects. They have generally already consulted a conventional healthcare practitioner for the problem, and many continue to use the two systems concurrently. Some "pick and mix" between complementary and conventional care, claiming that there are certain problems for which their general practitioner has the best approach and others for which a complementary practitioner is more appropriate. Most find their complementary practitioners through personal recommendation. 2, record 1, English, - complementary%20practitioner

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Originally called "house clocks" or "great chamber clocks, "lantern clocks were renamed as such during the mid-nineteenth century. As their original name suggests, they were designed as simple, functional timepieces, used to regulate the daily routine and activities of the household in which they hung. Their weight-driven movements were stout, reliable, comparatively cheap and were more accurate than contemporary spring clocks... Domestic inventories of the period show that lantern clocks were usually hung in a hall or on a staircase, where sufficient space existed beneath for the drop of their weights and where the sound of their bell or alarm could reverberate through the house. 4, record 2, English, - lantern%20clock

Anthrax toxin proteins engineered to require activation by tumor-associated proteases show high specificity and potency in suppression of solid tumor growth through actions on tumor endothelial cells. The toxin strongly inhibits proliferation of tumor endothelial cells. Importantly, an immunosuppressive regimen(pentostatin plus cyclophosphamide) not only prevents induction of toxin-neutralizing antibodies, allowing multiple courses of toxin treatment, but also has strong synergy with the toxin on solid tumors. 1, record 4, English, - toxin%20therapy

Fundamentals of SEL. SEL can help all young people and adults thrive personally and academically, develop and maintain positive relationships, become lifelong learners, and contribute to a more caring, just world. We define social and emotional learning(SEL) as an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. 1, record 5, English, - social%20and%20emotional%20learning

2, record 5, French, - apprentissage%20social%20et%20%C3%A9motionnel

The critical amino acid instructions directing these pathways appear to be dispersed through the sequence... Very similar patterns of chain folding and domain structure can arise from different amino acid sequences that show little or no homology. The immunoglobulins are a prime example of conservation of structure despite extensive differences in amino acid sequence. 3, record 16, English, - chain%20folding

The Utopia Pavilion was one of the most noticed of the five theme pavilions at Portugal' s World Exhibition in Lisbon. For the first time at a World or Universal Exhibition, a show was staged for over 3 million spectators. It took co-author and artistic director François Confino three years during which he worked with American, Canadian, French and Portuguese staff to see this incredible challenge through. Soaring effects and gigantic special effects were specially designed, and extremely complex mechanical systems bred movement into flexible materials and stage sets at an unusually large scale. Through close collaboration with Philippe Genty, the director, Oceans & Utopias enticed the audience on a fascinating journey through mythology, conquest and the anguish of those at sea known to everyone faced with the boundlessness of the ocean. 1, record 23, English, - Utopia%20Pavilion

1, record 23, French, - Pavillon%20de%20l%27Utopie

Sandspit Airport will frequently show strong, gusty westerly winds behind a front that will last for several hours, then begin to diminish. These westerly winds will, however, persist until the high pressure ridge that is following the frontal system moves across the area. 3, record 28, English, - channelled%20wind

[Commentaire d'une météorologue d'Environnement Canada.] 2, record 28, French, - vent%20canalis%C3%A9

Sanctuary. A sacred or consecrated place such as a temple, church, or mosque. Sanctuaries were formerly recognized as places of refuge for fugitives and criminals.... From the early 4th century, Christian churches were considered places of sanctuary.... The right of sanctuary continued to be acknowledged all through the Middle Ages. It was based in part on the sanctity of the consecrated church but also on the duty of a Christian priest to show mercy to an offender, to intercede for him, and to persuade him to repentance instead of handing him over for immediate execution. The system... with the growth of more effective judicial systems came to be regarded as an abuse... and [was] abolished between 1750 and 1850. 2, record 31, English, - right%20of%20sanctuary

In the performance of a system study for configuration development and propulsion system trades, it is imperative to have a good baseline configuration or reference vehicle. This vehicle should be relatively well characterized and be compatible with the configuration and propulsion systems to be compared. The maturity of the reference vehicle design and analyses must be such that the sensitivity to a given technology will be evident when it is installed. If the reference design is poorly substained, changes in propulsion technology may not show significant impact to the vehicle. Likewise, the level of analytical effort applied to characterize a new propulsion system must be compatible with efforts applied to the reference vehicle. The North American Trade Automation Prototype(NATAP) is a joint initiative between Canada, the United States and Mexico to streamline the customs clearance of commercial goods. The Prototype is based on a foundation of common data elements, documents and processes, and will attempt to show that most of the duplication required today could be eliminated. It will also test the use of Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) and the concept of a seamless border for low-risk and pre-approved drivers. The Prototype is a low volume field test operating at six sites. On the Canada/United States border, the sites are at Fort Erie/Buffalo and Windsor/Detroit, and on the Mexico/United States border the sites include El Paso/Juarez, Laredo/Nuevo Laredo, Otay Mesa/Tijuana and Nogales/Nogales. All transactions in the Prototype will be processed in parallel through the Prototype and through existing Customs commercial systems. 4, record 42, English, - North%20American%20trade%20automation%20prototype

To expedite the flow of legitimate goods coming across our border, a transponder system for trucks has already been tested. NATAP now is working on other high-tech alternatives such as smart cards or swipe cards that can instantly provide data on both the truck and the load it is carrying to customs. Under NATAP, the three countries are also harmonizing the data and the procedures for customs clearance. Work is underway on common software and an encryption system for exchanging electronic data. 5, record 42, English, - North%20American%20trade%20automation%20prototype

One interpretation of the timing of the generations is that they relate to the underlying business cycle of capital equipment purchase, the Juglar cycle originally identified in the nineteenth century(Juglar 1889) and apparent as a definite eight year cycle through to the current times(Lewis 1978). The peaks in the Juglar cycle correspond to our eight year boundaries from 1940 through 1980; the USA statistics show the 1964 peak as being in 1967 due to purchases to support the Viet Nam war but the next peak is in 1972 on target showing the dominating effect of world trade cycles rather than national events(Van Dujin 1983). 2, record 44, English, - Juglar%20cycle

3, record 44, French, - cycle%20Juglar

Most diagrams of boiling kettles show a straight-sided kettle with a round bottom and interior steam jackets/coils. Some are also direct-fired. However, one diagram shows the same type of kettle, sans steam internal steam coils or flame. This one draws from the bottom of the tank and pumps the wort through an external housing containing steam coils(called a calandria). The wort is then passed back through the MIDDLE of the tank(below the wort level) and shot through a "boiling fountain" to a point above the wort level where it is dispersed by an adjustable spreader and allowed to fall onto the surface of the wort. 3, record 46, English, - boiling%20fountain
