SHRINKAGE STOPING [5 records]

Record 1 2000-07-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Underground Mining
  • Mining Equipment and Tools
CONT

The primary mining method will be mechanized cut-and-fill with captive equipment ...

OBS

cut-and-fill mining : A stoping method in which the ore is excavated by successive flat or inclined slices, working upward from the level as in shrinkage stoping. However, after each slice is blasted down all broken ore is removed, and the stope is filled with waste up to within a few feet of the back before the next slice is taken out, just enough room being left between the top of the waste pile and the back of the stope to provide working space.

OBS

mechanized: Term descriptive of a mine that has a high percentage of machinery for all steps of mining and handling of coal or other mineral product from the face to the mine working place to the coal tipple or other mineral treatment plant.

Domaine(s)
  • Exploitation minière souterraine
  • Outillage et équipement (Exploitation minière)
OBS

CONT

top slicing: A method of stoping in which the ore is extracted by excavating a series of horizontal (sometimes inclined) timbered slices alongside each other, beginning at the top of the ore body and working progressively downward ...

CONT

cut-and-fill stoping : A stoping method in which the ore is excavated by successive flat or inclined slices, working upward from the level as in shrinkage stoping.

CONT

The section below is recovered in horizontal slices, by drilling flat holes and blasting against the space above.

CONT

CONT

Shrinkage stoping may be termed a "classic" mining method, having been perhaps the most popular... It has largely been replaced by mechanized methods... It is applicable to mineral deposits with regular boundaries and steep dip hosted in a competent rock mass. Also, the blasted ore must not be affected by storage in the slopes... Its most prominent feature is the use of gravity flow for ore handling : ore from stopes drops directly into rail cars via chutes obviating manual loading... Until the appearance of the pneumatic rocker shovel..., there was no machine suitable for loading rock in underground mines.
