English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
DEF

... the principal cloud structure of a typical wave cyclone, that is, the cloud forms found on the cold-air side of the frontal system.

CONT

Although Katia's cloud shield shrouded much of the Atlantic Provinces, the precipitation stayed well offshore.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
CONT

Même si l'écran nuageux de Katia a voilé une grande partie des provinces de l'Atlantique, les précipitations sont vraiment restées au large.

Record 3 2014-01-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Braking Systems (Motor Vehicles and Bicycles)
  • Braking Devices (Mechanical Components)
CONT

Disc brakes stay much cleaner than drum brakes. A disc brake is partly shrouded by the wheel, but it is largely exposed to circulating air. Dust and dirt created by pad wear and accumulated through normal driving are thrown off by the centrifugal force of the spinning rotor. Some brake dust accumulates inside the wheel and partially on the caliper. Proper and safe cleaning of brake assemblies and components is as important for disc brakes as for drum brakes.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Freins (Véhicules automobiles et bicyclettes)
  • Freins (Composants mécaniques)
CONT

A cylinder-like electrode made of glassy carbon.

OBS

The glassy carbon electrode, usually a cylinder-like form whose walls are shrouded by an insulator, one end of the cylinder placed in a solution, the other end being in contact with a metallic conductor, is used as an indicator or working electrode.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electric Rotary Machines
  • Energy (Physics)
  • Atmospheric Physics
CONT

The momentum exchange device determines the energy input of a WECS. The amount of energy exchanged is limited by the area intercepted by the device and by its efficiency. Efforts to enhance the efficiency of energy collection generally involve some acceleration of the airflow through the rotor. Examples of innovative concepts include the shrouded generators : the diffuser and confined and unconfined vortices.

Domaine(s)
  • Machines tournantes électriques
  • Énergie (Physique)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
CONT
