SICKLING [3 records]

Record 1 2024-07-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Blood
CONT

Sickle cell hemoglobin(HbS) is a hemoglobin(Hb) variant characterized by point mutation causing replacement of glutamic acid by valine at position 6 of the β globin chain, which results in sickling phenomenon in low oxygen states, acidosis, and dehydration.

Key term(s)
  • sickle-cell hemoglobin
  • sickle cell haemoglobin
  • sickle-cell haemoglobin
  • sickle haemoglobin
  • haemoglobin S

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
  • Sang
CONT

Record 2 2004-12-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Blood
DEF

Destruction of the red cell membrane causing release of hemoglobin.

CONT

Hemolysis of sickle cells is both extravascular and intravascular. The former is due to the effects of unstable Hb [hemoglobin] S and recurrent sickling on causing oxidative damage to cell membranes.

Key term(s)
  • haemolysis
  • haemocytolysis

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sang
DEF

Destruction des globules rouges provoquant la libération de l'hémoglobine.

CONT

hémolyse intra-vasculaire.

Key term(s)
  • hemocytolyse

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Sangre
DEF

Destrucción de glóbulos rojos.

Record 3 2001-06-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Diagnostic Procedures (Medicine)
  • Blood
DEF

A method to demonstrate hemoglobin S and the sickling phenomenon in erythrocytes.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Méthodes diagnostiques (Médecine)
  • Sang
CONT

Test de falciformation : les hématies en faucille (drépanocytes) deviennent visibles sous l'influence d'un réducteur (une goutte de métabisulfite de sodium à 2 % pour une goutte de sang) qui diminue la solubilité de l'hémoglobine S.

Key term(s)
  • épreuve de falciformation
