The objective of a green corridor is always to link important natural areas in a city using a strip or corridor characterised by rich vegetation. ... The benefits of green corridors are various, of course: increased biodiversity, promotion of non-polluting mobility, reduced air/noise pollution, helping prevent heat islands, and better water retention. They also generate social, cultural and economic benefits. 2, record 1, English, - green%20corridor
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Green corridors slicing through an urban area are conspicuous. Such strips(1) subdivide the area,(2) block out the other side,(3) are filters for movement across,(4) are thin and dominated by edge species,(5) are likely to be seen or encountered,(6) may be appealing or dangerous, and(7) tend to channel movement along their length. Indeed, these characteristics lead to the five major ecological functions of corridors... : conduit; barrier/filter; source; sink; and habitat. 3, record 1, English, - green%20corridor

Arcs are bounded on each side by polygons. A simple example would be a city street. The ends of the street(where it meets other streets) are nodes. On each side of the street we have a different city block(polygons). Because of this special relationship between 0-dimensional nodes, 1-dimensional chains, and 2-dimensional polygons, the arc is the most fundamental element in vector geographic information systems. 1, record 6, English, - arc

The hammerheaded pick is a very old tool that came into the fire service via the railroad. The tool is very simple : a striking or hammerhead surface on one side of the tool head and a pick on the other side. The pick is wide at the head and tapers to a point at the end … The primary use for it in the fire service is as a digging tool. The striking surface as well as the pick can be used for digging earth, as in trench rescues, or for dismantling concrete or block in masonry accidents, such as collapses. 2, record 15, English, - hammerheaded%20pick

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 32, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

It [blocking pattern] persists from one to several weeks.... there are three kinds of blocks :... a high-over-low block in which the flow splits, one branch taking a poleward excursion and the other branch an equatorward excursion. Any traveling storms that approach the block from the west, tend to weaken and go either over the ridge(top of the block) or pass through the trough on the south side.... An "omega" block so named because the flow about this block resembles the Greek letter "Omega". Cyclonic(counterclockwise) circulations can occur both southwest and southeast of the block(where low pressure is indicated on the diagram), and the weather near them can be stormy. Within the block, however, the weather is benign and warmer than normal.... A stationary high-amplitude ridge. Such a ridge often forms just off the West Coast of North America in winter. If it persists, it steers Pacific storms far to the north and keeps the weather in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest anomalously dry and mild. 2, record 33, English, - blocking%20situation
