The double flow turbine design not only provides double the expansion volume within a common casing, it also balances the large pressure drop between the turbine steam inlet and exhaust which tends to force the blade wheels from the high-pressure side towards the low-pressure side.... Steam enters the turbine in the middle of the casing and expands outward in both directions before exhausting at the ends of the turbine.
