Carotid artery stenosis is a condition that happens when your carotid artery, the large artery on either side of your neck, becomes blocked. The blockage is made up of a substance called plaque(fatty cholesterol deposits). When plaque blocks the normal flow of blood through your carotid artery, you’re at a higher risk of stroke.

OBS

Carotid artery stenosis is similar to coronary artery disease, in which buildup occurs in the arteries of the heart and can cause a heart attack.

A pulmonary shunt refers to the passage of deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the left without participation in gas exchange in the pulmonary capillaries. It is a pathological condition that results when the alveoli of the lungs are perfused with blood as normal, but ventilation(the supply of air) fails to supply the perfused region. In other words, the ventilation/perfusion ratio(the ratio of air reaching the alveoli to blood perfusing them) is zero.

Losartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. This medication is also used to treat kidney disease in people who have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Losartan is in a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.

Steep gullies, filled with ice and snow, are a frequent source of avalanches because they combine several hazardous features :. Often slope angles exceed 40° so that slab and loose snow avalanches are frequent.. Several independent starting zones can occur on the sides and at different elevations.. The snow condition/stability can vary widely over the length of the gully, making evaluation difficult.. Snow deposition and characteristics are radically affected by the weather in a gully..... The difficulty of escaping to the side and the probability of hitting rocks magnify the danger for persons caught.

DEF

A condition brought on by irritation or swelling of the tendons found along the thumb side of the wrist. The irritation causes the compartment(lining) around the tendon to swell, changing the shape of the compartment; this makes it difficult for the tendons to move as they should. The swelling can cause pain and tenderness along the thumb side of the wrist, usually noticed when forming a fist, grasping or gripping things, or turning the wrist.

OBS

"Blackberry thumb" is the latest colloquial interpretation of a very real medical condition called de Quervain’s tendonitis, and its variant de Quervain’s tenosynovitis. ... a particular turbulence structure, [that is] a horizontal, tornado-like vortex that forms on the downwind side of a mountain.

CONT

Rotor winds are associated with mountainous terrain and strong winds aloft. Mountain flights should anticipate rotor winds, and in particular, when wind aloft forecasts exceed 15 knots at mountain peak altitude. ... Surprisingly, rotor winds can be completely free of turbulence; however, this is not always true.

CONT

When strong winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour are blowing perpendicular to a mountain range, expect mountain waves and strong downdrafts for many miles on the leeward side. The presence of mountain waves can be identified by lenticular(lens shaped) clouds on the downwind side of the mountains. Rotor winds are also associated with this wind condition. These are strong winds rotating in a wheel like fashion on the immediate leeward side of mountains.

CONT
