SIDE DRIFT [7 records]

Record 1 2013-06-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Geochemistry
DEF

A compact, high-resolution and energy-dispersive x-ray detector.

CONT

Silicon Drift Detectors(SDD) are essentially 450 μm-thick discs of high-resistivity silicon which is fully depleted by applying a negative bias voltage to both sides of the disc. On one side of the planar structure the bias is graduated across the device by means of a series of "drift rings" such that a strong transverse electric field component is developed within the structure. This is used to direct electrons produced as a result of x-ray interactions towards a small charge collecting anode. On the opposite side of the device(x-ray entrance side) there is a uniform shallow implanted junction contact to allow good low energy x-ray sensitivity and minimum charge loss.

DEF

[...] chacun des deux côtés [d'une] galerie.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Extraction Procedures - Various (Mining)
  • Excavation (Construction)
CONT

The side drift method of attack is sometimes employed in a large size tunnel... through bad rock which requires support before mucking out.... A drift is driven ahead at each side at subgrade wherein the posts and wall plates are erected.

Domaine(s)
  • Procédés d'extraction divers (Exploit. minière)

OBS

CONT

[In the multiple-drift method of advance] the central core is left unexcavated until sides and crown are safely supported, thus providing a convenient central buttress ...

CONT

The multiple drift consists of excavating the arch drift after the side drifts, setting arch supports, and then removing the remaining core of rock.

CONT

Record 5 1999-04-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
CONT

The problem of severe baseline drift associated with column bleed at higher temperatures during temperature programming operations was satisfactorily eliminated by Emery and Koerner, who developed a dual-column, programmed-temperature chromatograph, extending the upper usable temperature limits for column packings. This was accomplished by programming the temperature of two symmetrical columns, the effluent of the "dummy" column passing through the reference side of a four-filament, hot-wire thermal conductivity cell compensating for the "bleed" of analytical column.

PHR

Low-capacity analytical column.

CONT

Drifting with the current is a widely used technique in rivers.

CONT

When drift fishing for walleye, it's important to keep your rod tip down and slightly to one side, so that you can set the hook when you feel a tap.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF
