Electrosleep(ES), in short, is the name for tPCS [transcranial pulsed current stimulation] methods by which the brain was stimulated in order to induce a sleep-like state in the subject.... it was reasoned that ES does not actually induce sleep, rather it is an indirect side effect of the relaxing effects of stimulation. Therefore, the term "electrosleep" was changed to "cranial electrostimulation therapy. " 2, record 1, English, - cranial%20electrotherapy%20stimulation

… hydrodynamic effect means the result of water in motion. On vessels of any size, but especially on large vessels, as the boat moves through the water the friction of the water on the bow and on the hull causes the water to create turbulence. This turbulence, as the force of the water moves toward the stern(back) of the boat, tends to pull floating objects into the side of the boat. 1, record 5, English, - hydrodynamic%20effect

in-line inductor: This type of proportioner educts or drafts foam concentrate from a container or tank by venturi action, utilizing the operating pressure of the hose water stream on which it is installed, injecting concentrate into that flow of water. 4, record 9, English, - in%2Dline%20foam%20concentrate%20inducer
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are three different types of foam proportioners commonly used in the fire service : line eductors, balanced pressure proportioners, and around-the-pump proportioners. The line eductor is the simplest and least expensive proportioning device. It has no moving parts in the water way, which makes it durable and dependable. The line eductor may be attached to the hoseline or may be part of the nozzle. There are two different types of line eductors : the in-line eductor and the self-educting nozzle. Both types of eductors use the venturi principle to draft foam concentrate into the water stream. As water at high pressure passes over a reduced opening, it creates a low-pressure area near the outlet side of the eductor. This low-pressure area creates a suction effect. The eductor pickup tube is connected to the eductor at this low-pressure point. The pickup tube submerged in the foam concentrate draws concentrate into the water stream, creating a foam water solution. 6, record 9, English, - in%2Dline%20foam%20concentrate%20inducer

If you take a walk between tall buildings, or in a narrow mountain pass, you will notice that the same effect is working : the air becomes compressed on the windy side of the buildings or mountains, and its speed increases considerably between the obstacles to the wind. This is known as a "tunnel effect. "So, even if the general wind speed in open terrain may be, say, 6 metres per second, it can easily reach 9 meters per second in a natural "tunnel". For, when a man took an estate by purchase, he took it not at feudum paternum or maternum which would descend, by the common law, only to the heirs by the father's or the mohter's side; but he took it ut feudum antiqueum, as a feud of indefinite antiquity : whereby it became inheritable to heirs general. 1, record 16, English, - acquisition%20by%20descent

The effect of pH on the stability of immobilized enzymes has been studied.... The stability of enzymes immobilized using polycationic carriers was enhanced on the acid side.... These shifts toward the acid side may be explained as follows. When an enzyme is bound to a polycationic carrier, positive charge on the enzyme protein increases, and the pH of the immobilized enzyme region becomes more alkaline than that of the external solution. Accordingly, the enzyme reaction effectively proceeds on the alkaline side of the external buffer pH, and the optimum pH apparently shifts to the acid side. 1, record 21, English, - polycationic%20carrier

Chicane is created when traffic is forced to deviate around fixed objects in an otherwise-straight road. The road is, in effect, narrowed first from one side, then the other, and finally from the first side again, in relatively short succession. Chicanes break up the typically long sightlines along streets and thus combine physical and psychological techniques to reduce speeds. Chicanes can be created by alternating parking from one side of a street to the other. 2, record 25, English, - chicane

There are several different types of photoelectric cells. In some [i. e., phototubes] there is a light-sensitive surface [a photocathode] which emits electrons and a second electrode, usually maintained at a fairly high positive potential, which collects the electrons... A second type is the photovoltaic or barrier layer photocell in which incident light produces an emf between two terminals... Solar cells, widely used to provide energy for satellites and space vehicles, are photovoltaic cells converting radiant energy into electrical energy. A familiar form uses a very perfect silicon crystal which is treated with trace impurities to introduce extra positive charges on one side of a thin wafer and extra negative charges on the other side... Radiant energy disturbs the electrical balance of the charges and thereby induces an emf which continues as long as light strikes the crystal... A third type of photoelectric cell [photoconductive, or photoresistive cell] utilizes the photoconductivity effect. 6, record 31, English, - photoelectric%20receptor

Silica Gel Column Chromatography.... Getting reproducibility when doing silica gel(or alumina) separations with column chromatography can be a problem. If you do not carefully control the water/moisture content of the silica gel and the mobile phase, moisture is added to or removed from the silica gel during the separation. This results in retention times that either increase(with water addition to the silica gel) or decrease(with water loss from the silica gel).... The reseacher attempting to optimize the flash chromatography of new compounds should investigate the effect of moisture on the separation being attempted. Various glass chromatographic columns containing silica gel with different amounts of moisture can be run side by side to see which column produces the optimum results. 1, record 36, English, - silica%2Dgel%20column%20chromatography

1, record 39, English, - line%20eductor

A feature that eventually causes lossage, possibly because it is not adequate for a new situation that has evolved. Since it results from a deliberate and properly implemented feature, a misfeature is not a bug. Nor is it a simple unforeseen side effect; the term implies that the feature in question was carefully planned, but its long-term consequences were not accurately or adequately predicted(which is quite different from not having thought ahead at all). A misfeature can be a particularly stubborn problem to resolve, because fixing it usually involves a substantial philosophical change to the structure of the system involved. 1, record 49, English, - misfeature

1, record 49, French, - misfeature

Mokume-Ji : A Japanese metal art which produces a ground resembling grained wood. In this process several thin metal plates are beaten together. The plate is then punched from one side so that the opposite side resembles broken blisters. These blisters are hammered down until each produces its own wave effect. Although iron was generally used, the finest work was in shakudo with a gold graining. 3, record 74, English, - mokume%20gane
