To begin felling a tree, first cut out a notch on the side of the tree facing the direction you want it to fall. Make the notch by cutting in horizontally and following with an undercut sloping up to the horizontal cut.... After the undercut is started, swing the saw around and cut a short distance into two sides of the tree. This is called "cornering" and prevents the bark and the sides from tearing when the tree falls.

Principles of gyroscopic action.... Dynamic stability. When the cone sits on its base on a flat surface and is tipped slightly, it returns to its original position when the tipping force is removed. This is said to be a statically stable position. If the cone is turned over, it may momentarily be possible to balance it on its pointed end, but the slightest tipping force will make it fall on its side. The latter position is said to be statically unstable.

In the last decades, imaging membrane potential has become a fruitful approach to study neural circuits, especially in invertebrate preparations with large, resilient neurons. At the same time, particularly in mammalian preparations, voltage imaging methods suffer from poor signal to noise and secondary side effects, and they fall short of providing single-cell resolution when imaging of the activity of neuronal populations. As an introduction to these techniques, we briefly review different voltage imaging methods(including organic fluorophores, SHG [second harmonic generation] chromophores, genetic indicators, hybrid, nanoparticles, and intrinsic approaches) and illustrate some of their applications to neuronal biophysics and mammalian circuit analysis.

A variation of the "chop", a "chip shot" is usually shallow, forcing an opponent to move quickly forward to hit up on a low ball right into the waiting hands of the attacker. Some tennis players consider the terms "dink" and "chip" to be synonymous. However, semantically speaking, "dink" is more generic in that it may refer to any shallow shot hit with or without much spin. Moreover, "dink" usually implies a certain degree of ruse and deception in conjunction with the use of appropriate body language, whereas "chip" implies no deception.

Vacuum breakers are basically anti-syphonage preventers and should never be used where there is any possibility of back pressure. They fall into 2 categories : a. Atmospheric Type... b. Pressure Type... The atmospheric type vacuum breaker is designed for intermittent service only. It should never be installed with a shut-off valve on the outlet side. It should only be used where it will be under pressure for short periods(maximum : 12 hours in a 24-hour period), not under pressure most of the time. Typical applications are : a. Washing Machines; b. Lawn Sprinkler Systems; c. Photographic Developing Tanks; and d. Vending Machines. This type of vacuum breaker is mounted directly in the line, and has a limited flow capacity due to the fact that line flow passes through the vacuum breaker.
