In gating into hollow tubes, flow considerations can dictate an even injection flow pattern. A single gate is not sufficient. Four gates 90° from each other produce four flow lines down the side of the piece, which may be objectionable. To overcome this, a diaphragm gate is used. The inside of the hole is filled with plastic directly from the sprue and acts as a gate. It must be machined out later. Soil Retention Tests. One variation of this test is directed toward the use of geotextiles as underwater silt curtains. The test device consists of two rectangular tanks which are placed end to end with slide gates facing one another. Between these two slide gates is the fabric specimen under test. The upstream tank(with the slide gate closed) is now filled with water that has a known amount of silt uniformly mixed in it. The gate valve at the exit end of the downstream tank is opened. The test begins by lifting up the slide gates on each side of the fabric and allowing the(turbid) water to pass through the fabric, which is acting as a submerged soil filter... Soil retention test. One variation of this test is directed primarily toward the use of geotextiles as underwater silt curtains. The test begins by lifting up the slide gates on each side of the fabric and allowing the(turbid) water to pass through the fabric, which is acting as a submerged soil filter.... This test... is aimed at the reduction in turbidity of rivers and streams during adjacent construction activities. A high speed device concept that relies on electrons traveling not within a layer but across its thickness. The switching speed of a transistor is limited by the time needed for an electron to traverse the device's middle terminal-the gate in a FET, the base in a bipolar device. Electrons lose speed as they travel because they bump into atoms and each other. By making the path short enough, the electron will sail from one side to the other like a projectile without a single collision. Such ballistic transport was first demonstrated last year at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Labs(Yorktown Heights, N. Y.). 1, record 23, English, - ballistic%20transistor
