Optic nerve sheath fenestration is an operation which is performed to reduce the swelling in the optic nerves in order to protect the eyesight. It involves a surgeon making a small window in the tough coating surrounding the optic nerve, called optic nerve sheath. This allows the fluid around the nerve to be released. The excess fluid escapes and harmlessly absorbs into surrounding tissues. This reduces the swelling in the optic nerve on the side that the procedure is performed. 3, record 1, English, - optic%20nerve%20sheath%20fenestration

Electrosleep(ES), in short, is the name for tPCS [transcranial pulsed current stimulation] methods by which the brain was stimulated in order to induce a sleep-like state in the subject.... it was reasoned that ES does not actually induce sleep, rather it is an indirect side effect of the relaxing effects of stimulation. A paraglider is made up of the wing, rigging(lines), small carabiner, and risers.... Lines. Commonly known as lines(a set of rigging) measuring variously between 0. 4-1. 7 mm, even 2. 2 mm, their high level of strength or weight resistance depends on their thickness and the properties of material used in its construction. They are usually concerned with a protective sheath to guard against ground friction and are made from dyneema, kevlar, spectra, superaramid and so on. The lines attach the wing to risers which in turn are attached to the pilots harness, and extend from the wings downward side in the order specified by the particular manufacturer, gradually tapering off in thickness and number via a series of quick links. Finally they end up in tiny linkages(known as small carabiner) from the risers. 6, record 6, English, - suspension%20line

Studies have shown that mentoring is the most effective way of helping a youngster deal positively with the challenges of growing up. For almost 30 years, these two agencies operated side by side in the Greater Ottawa Area. 1, record 11, French, - Grands%20Fr%C3%A8res%20Grandes%20S%26oelig%3Burs%20d%27Ottawa

The four bases are posts 3 ft. 11 in.(1. 2 m) high. The batsman tries to hit the ball and then run around the outside of the posts to the fourth post in order to score a rounder. Eppley Precision Spectral Pyranometer, PSP. This instrument is considered to be the most accurate radiometer produced commercially for the measurement of global sun and sky radiation, totally or in defined wavelength bands. It can be inverted to measure reflected shortwave radiation(from which the albedo can be calculated). The PSP has a circular multi-junction thermopile of the plated(copper-constantan) wire wound type which is temperature compensated in order to get a response that is independent of ambient temperature. The temperature sensed by the detector is nearly linear with the flux density of incident radiation. The instrument is supplied with a pair of removable precision ground and polished concentric hemispheres of Schott optical glass. The inner hemisphere is transparent to a wavelength of 0. 285-2. 800 µm. The outer dome can be replaced by Schott glass hemispherical filters which transmit within specified bandwidths. Desiccant is placed in the side of the instrument to absorb humidity inside the glass domes. Measurements are reported in Wm-2. 1, record 25, English, - Eppley%20precision%20spectral%20pyranometer

The Eppley PSP (or simply Eppley Pyranometer) is an instrument for the measurement of radiation in the range approximately between 285 and 2800 nm. As noted earlier, this wavelength range is commonly referred to as shortwave radiation, and it’s primary source is the sun. 3, record 25, English, - Eppley%20precision%20spectral%20pyranometer

What is "cone of scent"? Odour particles always travel in the shape of a cone. A cone of scent is always concentrated and narrow at the source, and becomes wider and more diluted the further it travels. When a detector dog detects a substance that it has been trained to interdict, it uses the cone of scent to pinpoint the source of the odour. It starts by moving from one side to the other and back again in order to define the search area. Then, by moving up and down the cone, the dog can determine in which direction the odour becomes stronger. The dog can then follow the ever-narrowing cone of scent to its source. 1, record 37, English, - cone%20of%20scent

1, record 37, French, - c%C3%B4ne%20de%20d%C3%A9tection%20olfactive

These wheels were housed in an oblong cylinder. On half of the circumference of each wheel, the normal ordered alphabet was engraved, and on the other half numbers between 0 and 99 were likewise engraved, but in mixed order, with each of the 57 wheels having their own mixed sequence. The transmitter and receiver connect with the loop through a speech circuit, which is often referred to as a "two-wire, four-wire" network because the four wires from the handset are reduced to two at the connection with the loop. The primary function of the speech circuit is to separate the circuits for talking and listening in order to limit the amount of the talker's signal(the side tone) in his own receiver. 1, record 66, English, - two%2Dwire%2C%20four%2Dwire%20network
