Adaptive headlights are an active safety feature designed to make driving at night or in low-light conditions safer by increasing visibility around curves and over hills. When driving around a bend in the road, standard headlights continue to shine straight ahead, illuminating the side of the road and leaving the road ahead of you in the dark. Adaptive headlights, on the other hand, turn their beams according to your steering input so that the vehicle's actual path is lit up. 2, record 2, English, - adaptive%20headlight

A cause of non-ideal flows in biochemical reactors. It is caused by excessive pressure drops, irregular packing of the support and the uneven application of the substrate to the column. Thus the fluid tends to find a preferential path through the column, usually down one side when friction of substrate with packing material is greater than that with the walls, or down the centre of the column when friction of substrate with the walls slows fluid flow. Therefore some of the particles in the column do not come into contact with the substrate, and contact with the rest of the particles is variable. 2, record 7, English, - channelling
Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In stirred reactors, better mixing can only be achieved by increasing the stirrer speed, by decreasing the viscosity of the substrate or the concentration of biocatalyst particles, or by baffling the reactor more efficiently. In packed-bed reactors, back-mixing, channelling and temperature gradients within the reactor are the most important causes of deviations from plug-flow behaviour and are expressed as the increase in reactor size needed to achieve the required productivity... Plug-flow is encouraged by the use of evensized, smooth, spherical, evenly packed support particles and by the absence of accumulated solids or gases in the column. 3, record 7, English, - channelling

The first type of precision airdrop is a single system called AGAS(Affordable Guided Airdrop System) that uses in-service round cargo parachutes. A detailed knowledge of the wind patterns at the drop location is used to calculate the required flight path and drop point. The flight path is maintained by the system's ability to pull slips which dump air from one side of the canopy. By incorporating wind data with this limited method of steering, the system has proven capable of landing an average of 48 meters away from the intended grid reference when deployed from 13 000 ft above ground level. This accuracy is phenomenal given that the present LF freefall cylinder rarely even hits a large drop zone when deployed from 5, 000 feet above ground evel(AGL). AGAS is the cheapest precision airdrop system presently available. 2, record 9, English, - affordable%20guided%20airdrop%20system

1, record 9, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20peu%20co%C3%BBteux%20de%20largage%20de%20pr%C3%A9cision

RAGA January 1981, 61. Track Circuit Conductor Retainer Clip : Bootleg and crossbonds often become damaged due to the track circuit conductor becoming dislodged from the rail and moving into the path of passing trains. To prevent this, a retaining clip has been developed which holds the track circuit conductor against the contour of the rail. Called a track circuit retainer, the clip will fit most sizes of rail and will accommodate either 4-76 mm bare or insulated strand, or 7-94 mm bare bond strand. It can be used with welded and plug bonds attached to the rail heads or webs. The clip comprises two strips of metal joined by two semi-circular holders through which the conductor passes. The clip is located under the rail and bent round to the opposite side, so that there is a holder above and below the rail bottom, so keeping the conductor in place. 1, record 14, English, - track%20circuit%20retainer

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head. In the simplest form of the spider or axial flow head, a central torpedo is positioned in the melt flow path supported generally by two spider legs. The smooth and direct path with little or no place for material to hang up and degrade makes this head ideal for PVC resin. Cross-sectional areas of the melt flow path from the extruder, over the torpedo, and over the spider legs are carefully balanced to ensure an even and consistent pressure and flow. 2, record 19, English, - spider%20head

A high speed device concept that relies on electrons traveling not within a layer but across its thickness. The switching speed of a transistor is limited by the time needed for an electron to traverse the device's middle terminal-the gate in a FET, the base in a bipolar device. Electrons lose speed as they travel because they bump into atoms and each other. By making the path short enough, the electron will sail from one side to the other like a projectile without a single collision. Such ballistic transport was first demonstrated last year at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Labs(Yorktown Heights, N. Y.). 1, record 21, English, - ballistic%20transistor
