ICU beds have a common set of capabilities, and a variety of specialty ICU beds have been developed for specific patient populations … including patients at risk for decubitus ulcers, obese patients [and] patients with fractures. A standard ICU bed typically has electric and manual controls, side rails, wheels and a brake, a removable headboard to allow procedures(i. e., endotracheal intubation, vascular access) from the head of the bed, and intravenous(IV) pole mounts.

The pole impact sled was developed to reproduce a vehicle-to-pole side impact crash test. The upper sled carriage is used to accelerate a 254 mm diameter pole to impact the side structure and other interior components, which are positioned on the lower sled carriage. Using dummy injury data and high-speed video, performance of curtain airbags and other countermeasures can be efficiently evaluated.

There are three ways to tell whether gaffs are sharpened properly. Step 1 : Three ways to maintain climbers : 1. 1. Gauging. This method checks the gaff's length, width, and thickness and the profile of its point.... 1. 2. Plane test. This method may be used with the gauge or independently if the gaffs are sharpened by machine. The test is made by using a soft board to tell whether proper sharpness has been reached. Place the climber with the gaff side down and parallel to the board without applying downward pressure above the gaff. Push the climber along the board. If the gaff is properly contoured and sharpened, it will dig into the wood and hold within approximately one inch. If the climber continues to glide along the board for more than one inch, it needs more honing. 1. 3. Pole cutout. After the climbers have been machine sharpened or gauged(and as often as required thereafter), the gaffs may be tested on a pole.

CONT

With regard to the Pacific side of the Arctic Basin, Overland et al.(1997) report that the position of the tropospheric cold pool is approximately centered over the Canadian Arctic and the Beaufort Sea, displaced from the North Pole by orographic effects of the North American mountain ranges. The result is advection of atmospheric heat and moisture into the Greenland and Barents seas, and the eastern Arctic. The position of this arctic cold pool in turn affects the position of the arctic front and the atmospheric circulation in the western Pacific.

CONT

There are at least three distinct types of cold pool: 1. Large (in areal extent), slow-moving vortices at latitudes poleward of roughly 50deg N & S. They are often over, or immediately downwind of the source regions of polar or arctic air masses, in such areas as the Canadian Arctic or Siberian Russia. They take up the characteristics of quasi-permanent features, often appearing on monthly, or even seasonal average maps. The column of very cold (dense) air associated with this version of the cold pool, is reinforced by net outgoing radiation which produces a highly stable, bitterly cold near-surface environment, with a surface ridge or anticyclone on MSLP charts. 2. Once cold air from the source region as detailed in (1.) above is caught up in the circulation of mid-latitude depressions, the characteristics of the air mass are altered ... 3. A pool of cold air can also become "detached" at lower latitudes ...

A boom derrick is a lifting device that incorporates the advantages of a gin pole and the long horizontal reach of a boom. Use the boom derrick to lift and swing medium-size loads in a 90-degree arc on either side of the resting position of the boom, for a total swing of 180 degrees. When employing a boom derrick in lifting heavy loads, set it on a turn plate or turn wheel to allow the mast and boom to swing as a unit. A mast is a gin pole used with a boom. The mast can swing more than 180 degrees when it is set on a turn plate or turn wheel.

  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
  • Rheology
OBS

Interaction between charged particles is the key to the electrorheological effect. A particle that has a positively charged pole and a negatively charged pole can either repel or attract another particle polarized in the same manner. When particles are side by side, the repulsion between like poles forces them apart. When particles align vertically, the attraction between unlike poles brings them together.... a polarized particle in the repulsive zone of another particle circles around into the attractive zone. If many polarized particles suspended in a fluid interact in this way, the particles will form chains, and the fluid will exhibit the electrorheological effect; that is, the fluid will thicken or even solidify.

OBS
