Bell' s palsy causes sudden, temporary weakness in your facial muscles... [It] can occur at any age. The exact cause is unknown. It's believed to be the result of swelling and inflammation of the nerve that controls the muscles on one side of your face. Or it might be a reaction that occurs after a viral infection. 5, record 1, English, - Bell%20palsy

The cause of the edema an dischemia is still being debated. In the past, cold exposure (e.g. chilly wind, cold air conditioning, or driving with the car window down) were considered the only triggers to Bell palsy. However, most authors believe that the herpes simplex virus (HSV) is the most likely cause. 6, record 1, English, - Bell%20palsy

6, record 1, French, - paralysie%20de%20Bell

The effect of pH on the stability of immobilized enzymes has been studied.... The stability of enzymes immobilized using polycationic carriers was enhanced on the acid side.... These shifts toward the acid side may be explained as follows. When an enzyme is bound to a polycationic carrier, positive charge on the enzyme protein increases, and the pH of the immobilized enzyme region becomes more alkaline than that of the external solution. Accordingly, the enzyme reaction effectively proceeds on the alkaline side of the external buffer pH, and the optimum pH apparently shifts to the acid side. 1, record 5, English, - polycationic%20carrier

Promotion of a chemical reaction by addition of a substance or enzyme(catalyst) that partakes in, but is not permanently affected by the reaction. In the case of enzymes, it is mediated by the functional groups found in amino acid side chains and coenzymes. Notably, the amino acid side chains of histidine, serine, cysteine, lysine, glutamate, and aspartate are frequently directly involved in the catalytic process. Coenzymes or metals work in conjunction with enzymes to provide a greater variety of functional groups than is available through amino acid side chains alone. 2, record 7, English, - catalysis

DNA technology enables the facile modification of proteins by highly specific mutagenesis of their genes. Enzymes with novel properties may be produced in large quantities from the mutant genes. Catterall attempted to improve the predictive value of early radiographic changes in Perthes disease by identifying four radiologic signs that indicated a capital femoral epiphysis at risk for collapse. These findings are(1) Gage's sign(a small, osteoporotic segment that forms a transradiant V on the lateral side of the epiphysis) ;(2) calcification lateral to the epiphysis;(3) lateral subluxation of the femoral head; and(4) a transverse epiphyseal line. Murphy and Marsh found that these four head at risk signs and a fifth, diffuse metaphyseal reaction, correlated better with a poor radiologic result than did the degree of epiphyseal involvement.
