Micrometer microscopes... are fitted at opposite ends of the diameter of a graduated circle, either horizontal or vertical....... Looking into the eyepiece, one sees two twin wires.... At the side of the microscope there is a drum, or micrometer head.... By rotating the drum, the wires are moved across the field until they straddle one of the larger divisions on the graduated circle.... The displacement is measured by the drum, and one thus gets a reading.
