SIDE TERMINAL [13 records]

Record 1 2023-06-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Terminals
CONT

The air passenger terminal expedites arriving and departing air-passenger traffic. It affords passengers orderly and convenient progress from the ground side of the terminal, through the terminal, to the aircraft, and back again. The air side of the terminal should efficiently handle military and civilian aircraft carrying passengers.

Record 2 2017-05-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • The Eye
CONT

As development continues, the axons sprout elaborate terminal branches and lose their side branches. Soon individual axons from each eye have highly branched terminals that are restricted to the appropriate layer.

CONT

Eventually the terminal branches occupy the appropriate territory to form eye-specific layers.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Oeil
CONT

DEF

A glacial lake filling a depression resulting from irregular deposition of drift in a terminal or ground moraine of a continental glacier.

CONT

The glacial origin of [Wallowa Lake] is evidenced by the spectacular morainal deposits which enclose it; and by the glaciated valleys that lie above it in the Wallowa Mountains. It is one of the finest examples of a morainal lake anywhere in the United States. Formation of the lake was due to the combined result of the damming of the Wallowa River by the two high lateral moraines, one on each side, and a lower terminal moraine at the north end.

CONT

Un lac glaciaire est un lac qui occupe un creux résultant de l'érosion par un glacier. Il faut distinguer le lac glaciaire du lac proglaciaire qui est issu de la fonte d'un glacier et du lac morainique qui se forme derrière une moraine.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Semiconductors (Electronics)
DEF

A high speed device concept that relies on electrons traveling not within a layer but across its thickness. The switching speed of a transistor is limited by the time needed for an electron to traverse the device's middle terminal-the gate in a FET, the base in a bipolar device. Electrons lose speed as they travel because they bump into atoms and each other. By making the path short enough, the electron will sail from one side to the other like a projectile without a single collision. Such ballistic transport was first demonstrated last year at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Labs(Yorktown Heights, N. Y.).
