In traditional cartography, the attachment of type in the form of stripping film on to a registered map overlay in proper relationship to linework and other map symbology.

An adhesive, usually a coating of wax is applied to the emulsion side of a wrong reading image positive stripping film. A sharp but delicate knife is used to cut around the type image and using a pair of tweezers, the thin emulsion layer is peeled off and positioned on a clear map overlay. Finally, by using a burnishing tool, the thin emulsion layer containing the type image and coated with wax, is rubbed down thereby ensuring better adhesion. The same process may be done using negative stripping film and a map negative overlay.

Up to now, welding two different metals such as steel and aluminum has been a difficult task. Mazda tackles it by optimizing the rotating tool shape and joining characteristics, and by using galvanized steel on one side. A joining gun holds the parts from both sides, and then spins while force is applied. This generates frictional heat that subsequently joins the aluminum materials to the steel sheet metal. Galvanized steel helps prevent the galvanic corrosion that results from the contact of two different types of metal.

With the change to SI units a special hardened steel tool(known as the Janka hardness tool) rounded to a diameter of 11. 3 mm(projected area 100 mm2) is embedded to one-half of its diameter into the(20mm) test piece... an electrical contact... rings a signal bell when the correct depth of penetration has been reached... the hardness test is performed... on the static bending specimen.... The rate of penetration of the ball is 0. 11 mm/s... there is a very good correlation between the side hardness of timber, as determined by the Janka hardness tool, and its compression strength perpendicular to the grain.

... a Side Axe with a long blade shaped like a bird's wing, with the eye or socket near the lower, wider end. There is virtually no poll, and the cutting edge is usually bevelled on one side only.
