Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Wall clouds can range from a fraction of a mile up to nearly five miles in diameter, and normally are found on the south or southwest(inflow) side of the thunderstorm. Even though this cloud is lowering, it remains attached to the rain free cloud base of the thunderstorm. It is usually located south or southwest of the visible precipitation area, and marks the strongest updraft in the thunderstorm. The wall cloud develops as the strong updraft draws in surface moisture from several miles away. 3, record 1, English, - wall%20cloud
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
"Wall cloud" also is used occasionally in tropical meteorology to describe the inner cloud wall surrounding the eye of a tropical cyclone, but the proper term for this feature is "eyewall." 3, record 1, English, - wall%20cloud

3, record 1, French, - mur%20de%20nuages

The word "endogenous" was originally a botanical term... Endogenous means originating on or growing within the side of something, as cells within the wall of the parent cell... That's a good metaphor for economic or technological growth--exogenous growth is growing like rings on a tree--definitely not how an economy grows, or innovations develop. It's a view of society as a giant organism within which innovations develop randomly and irregularly, not in any planned manner. Endogenous growth theory simply means economic growth from within a system, usually a nation-state. 2, record 54, English, - endogenous%20growth%20theory

Kibo's Debris Shield. The International Space Station(ISS) wall is designed to protect the ISS and its crew from space debris. A debris shield is adopted for this particular purpose. A famous astronomer, Fred Whipple, devised this shield, so it is called a Whipple Shield. The idea is to attach a layer of thin aluminum plate outside the wall. When a space debris impacts this outer plate, the kinetic energy of the space debris is converted to heat. This heat creates a hole in the outer plate. However, the debris will evaporate or disintegrate to small particles consisting of gas, liquid and solids and will no longer be able to significantly damage the wall.... a stuffed-shield is adopted on the wall of the front side of Kibo, covering an area of 150 degrees. A stuffed shield binds several kinds of textile layers similar to a bulletproof vest between itself and the wall. This is a reinforced Whipple shield. 2, record 60, English, - debris%20shield

SIR... stands for Standard Interface Rack. SIR is a system for integrating hardware. It is a technology we use to take Earth things to space. The rack contains mechanical parts, called a liner, used to slide drawers in and out, much like a file cabinet. Drawers are used to contain or repackage things and make them flight ready. For example, we can’t take computers to space in the same outer packages or cases we use on Earth because some pieces may float out or the vibration from launch would destroy them. So, we take all the computer's guts from the central processing unit(its brain) and repackage it in one of these drawers. On the rack side, the SIR also provides power and data for the drawers through cables. Power for a drawer comes from a connector in the rack, just like a wall outlet at your house. Data cables serve many purposes, but the main one is for communication. This is so drawers can "talk" to each other, the Space Station, and Earth. For the computer drawer mentioned above, parts are wired to connectors in the drawer. When you slide the drawer into the rack, it connects to cables already in the rack. 2, record 61, English, - standard%20interface%20rack

Surface samples were collected from three locations in the Shuttle before and after each mission, including the vent above the waste control system in the middeck, the left most air-return in the port side crawl-through, and the air vent for the Commander's chair in the flight deck. In flight surface samples were collected using the Surface Sampler Kit from the same three locations in the Shuttle and five locations in the Mir, including the Commander's seat, the dining table, Commander's cabin, the treadmill handle, and the wall above the Kristall Module hatch. Just about any type of step arrangement can be designed with Allan Block. Stairs built parallel to the wall face "follow" the natural 1&1/2 inch setback of the wall. Stairs built perpendicular to the wall face will widen by 3 inches per step(to account for the setback on each side wall) as you go. Design these stairs with intermediate landings to keep stair widths consistent. 1, record 63, English, - step%20arrangement

Endless stairs... Notice that the four sides of the stair walls that you may have perceived as a "rectangle" is actually not a rectangle. The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 64, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

Electronic flash tubes are made in many sizes and forms, such as straight, U, or spiral shapes, as required for different applications. The gas pressure and electrode spacing are arranged so that the tube will not flash by itself in most applications. But when a triggering pulse is applied to an external electrode, internal ionization results, and the tube flashes. Most of the flash tubes used today are filled with Xenon gas at a pressure of a fraction of an atmosphere. A series of 1 microsecond exposures of the arc in a typical tube made with a magneto-optic shutter shows that the arc starts as a narrow filament adjacent to the flash-tube wall on the side of the external triggering electrode. Soon, if the energy is sufficiently large, the arc filament enlarges to fill the entire flash tube. 3, record 70, English, - electronic%20flash%20tube

Up until now the envelope equations have been written for a laterally unbounded system. The presence of side boundaries that confine the system can modify the instability mechanism. For example, in convection, viscous friction at a lateral wall increases the damping, which inhibits the instability. By contrast, a thermal perturbation in the wall or simply a difference of thermal conductivity between the fluid and the wall, can build up a horizontal temperature gradient that may induce a fluid motion, thus encouraging the instability. In both cases, we expect lateral boundary effects to impose modulations and act as boundary conditions on the envelope. 1, record 89, English, - lateral%20boundary%20effect

1, record 89, French, - effet%20de%20paroi%20lat%C3%A9rale

The three basic types [of forced air furnace] are upflow, counter flow and horizontal, and there are several variations depending on the actual installation.... The highboy(upflow) furnace is used primarily in single-level homes when the ducts are placed in the attic. An enclosed finishing vat for cheesemaking(Cheddar, Colby or stirred-curd types) has a generally flat bottom with longitudinal trough for whey drainage; an oval side wall and a dome-shaped top which overlaps the sides. A reciprocating agitator unit mounted above the vat is fitted with both stirring and unloading paddles. Curd and whey are passed into the vat through an inlet in the top and whey drains into a tank situated at the lower end of the vat, with a screen to prevent curd from entering the tank. A curd discharge outlet with movable door is situated in the bottom wall of the tank, directly above a curd hopper fitted with a conveyor for moving curd to a collection area. As the vat is totally enclosed, contamination of the curd is virtually eliminated, evaporation heating of the vat is not required...(US Patent, 1982, no. 4, 308791 : information obtained through the FSTA data base). 2, record 97, English, - finishing%20vat
