In a communication system, the end-to-end delay of a packet may be defined as the time from its generation at the source to when the packet reaches its destination. In a packet-switched communication system, the delay for packets to travel from source to destination may vary depending upon various operating conditions, including but not limited to, channel conditions and network loading. Channel conditions refer to the quality of the wireless link. Some factors determining the quality of the wireless link are signal strength, speed of a mobile and/or physical obstructions. The end-to-end delay includes the delays introduced in the network and the various elements through which the packet passes. Many factors contribute to end-to-end delay. Variance in the end-to-end delay is referred to as jitter. 3, record 1, English, - end%2Dto%2Dend%20delay

... when the remote clock frequency is consistently higher than the local clock frequency, the end-to-end system delay increases. The notion of critical bands, introduced by Fletcher(1940), explains the masking of a narrow band(sinusoidal) signal by a wideband noise source... One can think of a critical band as a frequency selective "channel" of psychoacoustic processing; only noise falling within the critical bandwidth can contribute to the masking of a narrow band signal. The mammalian auditory system consists of a whole series of critical bands, each filtering out a specific portion of the audio spectrum. 4, record 12, English, - critical%20bandwidth

Trips employing auxiliary trip units include the Loss of Load trip and the APD – High trip. The Loss of Load trip is a contact input from the Electro Hydraulic Control System control oil pressure on each of the four high pressure stop valves. … 10. Loss of Load. The Loss of Load(turbine stop valve(TSV) control oil pressure) trip is anticipatory for the loss of heat removal capabilities of the secondary system following a turbine trip. The Loss of Load trip prevents lifting the pressurizer saftey valves, PORVs and MSSVs in the event of a turbine generator trip. Thus, the trip minimizes the pressure and temperature transients on the reactor by initiating a trip well before reaching the Pressurizer Pressure – High trip and pressurizer safety valve setpoints. The four RPS Loss of Load reactor trip channels receive their input from sensors mounted on the high pressure TSV actuators. Since there are four high pressure TSVs, one actuator per valve and one sensor per actuator, each sensor sends its signal to a different RPS channel. When the turbine trips, control oil is dumped from the high pressure TSVs. When the control oil pressure drops to the appropriate setpoint, a reactor trip signal is generated. 1, record 13, English, - load%20reactor%20trip%20channel

Bridgeable Amplifiers. Amplifier bridging is simply using 2 channels of an amplifier to drive a common load. For 2 channel amplifiers, one left signal and one right signal is used to drive a mono speaker load. Keep in mind that "mono" and "bridging" are not necessarily the same. Mono means that there's only one output signal. There could be more than one speaker but each speaker will have the same output. Bridging means that you are using more than one source of power to drive a load(speaker). The sources of power are one each output from either channel of the amplifier. 1, record 27, English, - bridgeable%20amplifier

Polarization of the radar signal is the orientation of the electromagnetic field and is a factor in the way in which the radar signal interacts with ground objects and the resulting energy reflected back. Most radar imaging sensors are designed to transmit microwave radiation either horizontally polarized (H) or vertically polarized (V), and receive either the horizontally or vertically polarized backscattered energy. 4, record 31, English, - polarization
Record number: 31, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Polarimetric radars, like RADARDAT-2, are able to transmit and receive both horizontal and vertical polarizations. With this configuration, four linearly polarized signals are measured coherently in the scattering matrix: HH, HV, VH, and VV. Consequently, the user can derive additional information about the target to aid in the analysis. 5, record 31, English, - polarization

3, record 31, French, - polarisation
Record number: 31, Textual support number: 2 CONT
4, record 31, French, - polarisation
Record number: 31, Textual support number: 3 CONT
4, record 31, French, - polarisation

Envisat's ASAR [Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar] instrument is the first permanent spaceborne radar to incorporate dual-polarisation capabilities-the instrument can transmit and receive signals in either horizontal or vertical polarisation. This Alternating Polarisation(AP) mode can improve the capability of a SAR instrument to classify different types of terrain. Because the reflective properties of a surface are dependant on the polarisation of the incoming radar signal, the use of more than one type of polarisation provides valuable extra information. The ASAR AP mode provides two simultaneous images(or channels) of the same scene taken with different radar polarisation options. Since the radar can transmit and receive in both the horizontal(H) and vertical(V) polarisations, researchers can create image pairs, with possible combinations, HH&VV... HH&HV and VV&VH. A cross-polarisation option employs a channel in which the polarisation signal transmitted by the spacecraft is received on a different polarisation, i. e. transmitted using a horizontal polarisation and received on the vertical for an HV combination, or the reverse for a VH combination. 3, record 36, English, - advanced%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

Both radio broadcasting and fiber optic systems require three essential elements : a transmitter, a transmission medium and a receiver. Instead of a radio wave transmitter and modulator to set the broadcast frequency and power the signal through the air, optical systems use modulators to establish an optical frequency, or channel, on a laser beam and feed it through a fiber. An optical frequency receiver then collects the messages, much in the manner of a radio set. And, just as tunable radio receivers let listeners select from among a number of stations, a tunable receiver for fiber optic communication is highly desirable. 2, record 50, English, - optical%20frequency

The video-on-demand model takes advantage of some form of two-way communication between the home and the video source, which could be a low-bandwidth back channel on a CATV path or a phone line with sufficient bandwidth to carry a compressed video signal. The home may be furnished with a low-cost box, which accepts signals from a hand-held control and which transmits the appropriate status to the video control center. The viewer uses the hand-held control to navigate a selection menu and choose a program. Shortly after the selection is made, the program begins playing. The representation of a general pulse transmission system is given in Figure 8. 1. Here, the information input to the system is encoded in some sense.... This encoded signal drives the modulator, which maps the pulse sequence into an analog wave suitable for transmission over the channel.... At the receiving end, the demodulator maps the received analog waveform into a pulse sequence that is a "best guess" of the sequence transmitted. The decoder operates on the binary sequence to extract the information originally impressed on the encoder. The overall objective is to transfer the information from the input to the output within some a priori specified low error rate, where the error rate is the average number of disagreements per unit of time between the inputs and the outputs. 1, record 59, English, - pulse%20transmission%20system

Note 2-This notion may be extended to the constituent elements of a channel, such as telegraphy relay. Note 3-It will be necessary to specify in what conditions the channel is used(type of apparatus, modulation rate, manual or automatic keying, etc.) and to effect the modulation under these conditions. In particular the point of entry at which the distortionless modulation is applied and the terminal point where the distortion is measured should be defined. 1, record 63, English, - degree%20of%20inherent%20distortion

1, record 65, French, - appareil%20r%C3%A9cepteur%20de%20t%C3%A9l%C3%A9copie
