SIGNAL FADING [7 records]

Record 1 2012-07-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications
  • Radio Waves
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
DEF

The fading of a received signal caused by different wave components traveling along slightly different paths.

CONT

Interference fading: As [the] name indicates, it is the fading produced because of upper and lower rays of the sky wave interfering with each other. This is the most serious fading. It is also produced due to the interference between a ground wave and a sky wave or between sky waves reaching [a] receiver by different paths or different number of hops. For a single sky wave frequency, interference fading takes place due to the fluctuations in the height of the ionospheric layer or due to the variation in the ionic density of the layer.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications Transmission
DEF

A fading-dispersive channel model [that] reflects the degradation on the transmitted signal in terms of amplitude fading and rapid phase variations.

OBS

Record created as part of a collaborative pilot project between the Université du Québec à Hull and the Terminology and Standardization Directorate of the Translation Bureau.

CONT

Record 3 2001-05-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
DEF

The ratio of maximum signal to minimum signal during fading, usually expressed in dB.

CONT

Often the fading range is specified over a range of percentages. For example, the 5% to 95% fading range is the ratio of the signal exceeded 5% of the time to that exceeded 95% of the time.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Radiotransmisión y radiorrecepción
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
  • Telecommunications Transmission
DEF

A reception of signals from two different receiving antennas, using whichever signal is the strongest at each instant to offset fading.

OBS

In one arrangement, two identical radiofrequency systems, each with its own antenna, feed a common audio-frequency channel. In another arrangement, a single receiver is changed over from one antenna to the other by electronic switching at a rate fast enough to prevent loss of intelligibility.

  • Transmisión (Telecomunicaciones)
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications
DEF

Reflections of a radio signal from different obstacles. The result is a series of reflected radio signals coming from different directions after travelling along different paths. As a consequence, they will reach a certain point at slightly different times causing fading, distortion, ghosting, etc.
