Stands in conspicuous location to stop traffic with flag, sign or lantern when route is obstructed or restricted by construction equipment or traffic from opposite direction. Signals traffic to proceed when obstruction is cleared. Works normally in conjunction with flagman/woman at opposite end of construction site to control flow of traffic in both directions. Rides on moving vehicle, as required, stretching out arm with signal to coordinate traffic flow in both directions. Explains to motorists reasons for prolonged delays.

Fait signe aux automobilistes de passer quand il n'y a plus d'obstacle. Travaille conjointement avec un ouvrier qui remplit les mêmes fonctions à l'autre extrémité du chantier, afin que soit dirigée la circulation des véhicules dans les deux sens. Se déplace à l'aide d'un véhicule au besoin, et étend le bras pour montrer un panneau de signalisation et coordonner la circulation des véhicules dans les deux sens. Explique aux automobilistes la cause de la prolongation des délais.
