A system of radio navigation in which an aircraft receives interrelated pulses transmitted from ground stations and determined its position by plotting the observed intervals between the pulses. 8, record 4, English, - GEE
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
GEE used a series of transmitters sending out precisely timed signals, and the aircraft using GEE... examined the time of arrival on an oscilloscope at the navigator's station. If the signal from two stations arrived at the same time, the aircraft must be an equal distance from both transmitters, allowing the navigator to determine a line of position on his chart of all the positions at that distance from both stations. By making similar measurements with other stations, additional lines of position can be produced, leading to a fix. 9, record 4, English, - GEE

[Transceiver Search.] The second method is the grid method. When you find a signal, traverse back and forth across the slope. Where you think the signal is strongest (or, better yet, midway between fade points), you simply make a perpendicular turn (90 degrees to the old direction) and follow this new line. If the signal fades, it’s the wrong way, so turn around (180 degrees) and march in the other direction until you hear the strongest signal (remember to keep turning down the volume). Turn 90 degrees again and repeat the process over and over until you zero in on the buried beacon. 4, record 13, English, - grid%20search%20method

Interlacing, invented in the 1940s, is probably the earliest form of video compression. Instead of transmitting a complete video frame 60 times every second, engineers discovered that they could halve the bandwidth needed by the TV signal if they sent alternately odd and even "fields", each field comprising just the odd or even picture lines.... When viewed on a progressive display device, such as a PC, two fields are interlaced to create one frame. Because half the frame's lines are captured a fraction of a second later than the other half, fast-moving objects may appear jagged, the result of the object advancing slightly within 1/60th of a second... It is possible to remove the jagged-edge interlace artifacts by applying a process known as "de-interlacing" to the video. 2, record 18, English, - de%2Dinterlace
