An instrument combining a pulsed laser transmitter and optical receiver(usually a telescope) with an electronic signal processing unit used for the detection and ranging of various distant targets in the atmosphere, analogous to the principles of operation of microwave radar. 6, record 20, English, - lidar
Record number: 20, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The lidar technique operates on the same principle as radar; in fact, it is sometimes called laser radar. The principal difference between lidar and radar is the wavelength of the radiation used. Radar uses wavelengths in the radio band whereas lidar uses light, that is usually generated by lasers in modern lidar systems. 7, record 20, English, - lidar
Record number: 20, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are three basic generic types of lidar: range finders, DIAL, and Doppler lidars. Rande finder lidars are the simplest lidars. They are used to measure the distance from the lidar instrument to a solid or hard target Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) is used to measure chemical concentrations (such as ozone, water vapor, pollutants) in the atmosphere. Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target High-resolution DEMs with vertical accuracy as good as 10 cm can be created with Lidar. Lidar is also better able to map bare earth elevations in forested or vegetated areas than other methods because only a single laser pulse needs to be able to reach between trees and the ground. 8, record 20, English, - lidar

Class-A operation. Class-A amplifier operation is characterized by a conduction period of the output current(collector or drain) of 360°. That is, the operating point is chosen to have a constant voltage and current. In effect, the amplifier power is on all the time. This is referred to as linear operation. By operating in the linear region of the transistor's characteristics, the amplified signal suffers minimum distortion. This comes at a price of inefficiency in the amplifier. The theoretical maximum possible efficiency of a class-A amplifier is 50%, but due to linearity requirements of the applications, the efficiency may be no more that 25%. 4, record 23, English, - class%2DA%20operation

In order to avoid creating an unsafe condition, when the signal is taken "Off" for an approaching train and crank handle is also available for the operation of the points, it is necessary that the crank handle be kept in safe custody. The experience has shown that the better arrangement is to lock the crank handle by an electric lock whenever the concerned signal is taken Off so that it is not possible for anybody to use the crank handle for operation of the points. Alternatively, if crank handle is out, the signal should not be allowed to go to Off position. The phenomenon is called "reciprocal interlocking" and it is achieved by providing reciprocal interlocking arrangement by means of circuitry and the electric lock fixed on the crank handle. In all modern signalling installations this feature is a must in order to achieve safe train operation. 1, record 26, English, - reciprocal%20interlocking

Leaks... fall into two basic types : internal leakage [such] as a thin oil film is built into the working parts of a hydraulic system. This lubricates the mating surfaces of valve spools, cylinder pistons, and other moving parts. Oil is not lost through this normal internal leakage since it eventually returns to the system reservoir. However, too much internal leakage will slow the operation of the system and waste power through the generation of heat. In some cases, it may cause cylinders to creep or drift. Or it may cause loss of oil control in the valves.... External oil leaks not only look bad-they can be expensive and hazardous.... A small leak can also be the signal for a hydraulic rupture that may injure a person while putting the machine out of operation.... Every joint in a hydraulic circuit is a potential point of leakage. This is why the number of connections in a system is kept at a minimum. Components can leak, but care in assembly and use of new seals and gaskets during overhaul will help to reduce this problem. 2, record 29, English, - leak

In order to maintain the required obstacle free airspace in the vicinity of a certified airport, regulations known as airport zoning regulations(AZR) may be enacted by Transport Canada. These AZR are enacted not only to protect the present operations of an airport, but also to help ensure that potential and future development surrounding the airport remains compatible with the safe operation of aircraft and of the airport itself. Lands within the airport boundary are under the control of the airport operator and do not require AZR. Since Transport Canada certification requirements normally extend beyond the airport boundary, AZR are enacted on the surrounding off-airport lands. For AZR to be enacted an airport certificate must be in force at an airport or the land in question must be designated as an airport site.... AZR restrict the heights of buildings, structures and objects(including natural growth) on regulated lands, and protect aircraft from potential hazards, such as bird strikes and electronic signal interference. 1, record 35, English, - airport%20zoning%20regulations

1, record 35, French, - r%C3%A8glement%20de%20zonage%20a%C3%A9roportuaire

To satisfy the commands, the aircraft is maneuvered so that the airplane symbol is flown into the V-bars until the two are aligned. Input signals to the V-bars depend upon the mode of operation.
