In a communication system, the end-to-end delay of a packet may be defined as the time from its generation at the source to when the packet reaches its destination. In a packet-switched communication system, the delay for packets to travel from source to destination may vary depending upon various operating conditions, including but not limited to, channel conditions and network loading. Channel conditions refer to the quality of the wireless link. Some factors determining the quality of the wireless link are signal strength, speed of a mobile and/or physical obstructions. The end-to-end delay includes the delays introduced in the network and the various elements through which the packet passes. Many factors contribute to end-to-end delay. Variance in the end-to-end delay is referred to as jitter. 3, record 1, English, - end%2Dto%2Dend%20delay

Sensor-based ore sorting relies on the basic principle that different minerals have different densities, shapes, and electromagnetic properties and these differences can be used to separate them from each other. The sensors are mounted on conveyor belts or chutes and as ore passes by, they emit a signal that is analysed by a computer to determine the composition of the ore. Based on this, a mechanical sorting system separates the ore into different streams. 2, record 3, English, - sensor%2Dbased%20ore%20sorting

As used herein, the term "control law" can refer to one or more mathematical formulae used by a control system to command, manage, direct, or regulate the behavior of another device, such as a robot. Control laws can be used singularly or [in] combination to produce a control signal based on another signal(e. g., positive feedback, negative feedback, etc.) and one or more control variables. The output of the control law is a signal that is passed to the robot to cause it to move based on the difference between desired values and actual values(e. g., sensor data). For example, a PID [proportional-integral-derivative] controller combines three control laws where one control variable scales the present value of the error, another control variable scales the integral of the error, and a third control variable scales the derivative of the error. These scaled terms can then be fed back to the system to change the signal. 1, record 4, English, - control%20law

One radar that has gained popularity due to its ability to scan a large field of view is the phased array radar (PAR). [One] traditional PAR [is] known as a passive electronically scanned array (PESA). In the PESA, a single transmitter generates a high-powered signal that is transmitted through individual antenna elements. Each transmit element has an associated computer-controlled phase shifter ... that creates a directional beam by adding a phase shift to the signal from each element. The narrow beam is sequentially steered through the field of view by changing the phase at each element. 4, record 8, English, - passive%20electronically%20scanned%20array

The repeater, which consists of an amplifier and a programmable delay line, amplifies and delays the intercepted signal.

Adaptive cruise control is similar to conventional cruise control in that it maintains the vehicle's pre-set speed. However, unlike conventional cruise control, this new system can automatically adjust speed in order to maintain a proper distance between vehicles in the same lane. This is achieved through a radar headway sensor, digital signal processor and longitudinal controller. If the lead vehicle slows down, or if another object is detected, the system sends a signal to the engine or braking system to decelerate. Then, when the road is clear, the system will re-accelerate the vehicle back to the set speed. 7, record 60, English, - adaptive%20cruise%20control

The notion of critical bands, introduced by Fletcher(1940), explains the masking of a narrow band(sinusoidal) signal by a wideband noise source... One can think of a critical band as a frequency selective "channel" of psychoacoustic processing; only noise falling within the critical bandwidth can contribute to the masking of a narrow band signal. The mammalian auditory system consists of a whole series of critical bands, each filtering out a specific portion of the audio spectrum. 4, record 67, English, - critical%20bandwidth

Trips employing auxiliary trip units include the Loss of Load trip and the APD – High trip. The Loss of Load trip is a contact input from the Electro Hydraulic Control System control oil pressure on each of the four high pressure stop valves. … 10. Loss of Load. The Loss of Load(turbine stop valve(TSV) control oil pressure) trip is anticipatory for the loss of heat removal capabilities of the secondary system following a turbine trip. The Loss of Load trip prevents lifting the pressurizer saftey valves, PORVs and MSSVs in the event of a turbine generator trip. Thus, the trip minimizes the pressure and temperature transients on the reactor by initiating a trip well before reaching the Pressurizer Pressure – High trip and pressurizer safety valve setpoints. The four RPS Loss of Load reactor trip channels receive their input from sensors mounted on the high pressure TSV actuators. Since there are four high pressure TSVs, one actuator per valve and one sensor per actuator, each sensor sends its signal to a different RPS channel. When the turbine trips, control oil is dumped from the high pressure TSVs. When the control oil pressure drops to the appropriate setpoint, a reactor trip signal is generated. 1, record 77, English, - load%20reactor%20trip%20channel

Energy spectroscopy. For energy analysis the output current pulse from a PMT [photomultiplier tube] or from a semiconductor detector is often applied to a charge-sensitive preamplifier. The preamplifier produces a voltage pulse with a peak amplitude that is proportional to the total charge in the current pulse, which is proportional to the energy absorbed from the incident radiation. Amplifiers and filters are used to expand the range of the peak amplitude and to shape the signal from the preamplifier, a process that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio for the system. For energy analysis the peak amplitude of the shaped pulse represents the information of interest. Discriminators and single-channel analyzers(SCA) can be used, following the signal shaping system, to determine the presence of certain energies of detected radiation. A discriminator produces an output logic pulse if it's input signal exceeds a preset threshold level. An SCA produces an output logic pulse if the peak amplitude of it's input signal falls within the energy window that is established with two preset threshold levels. 1, record 80, English, - energy%20spectroscopy

A sweep ramp provides the tuning voltage for a voltage-tuned oscillator and is simultaneously applied to the horizontal-deflection system of a cathode-ray-tube display. The local-oscillator frequency is mixed with the input signal to produce an intermediate frequency(IF). The IF is detected, filtered, and applied to the vertical deflection plates of the CRT [cathode-ray-tube]. 5, record 100, English, - cathode%2Dray%20tube%20display
Record number: 100, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The receiver has to have suitable pass band characteristics to deal with the pulse modulation side bands, and must be free from paralysis following reception of a large signal ... Its output is rectified and amplified and applied to the cathode-ray tube display, either as a deflexion or an intensity modulation. The cathode-ray tube is also supplied with a range time base ..., synchronized to the pulse transmission, and suitable calibration devices ... are usually also necessary. The form of the display unit depends on the particular radar application, and on what coordinate or coordinates other than range are to be presented. For example, in the plan position indicator the time base starts from the centre of the tube and goes radically outwards in a direction depending on the azimuth of the beamed aerials (which sweeps continuously), and the signal is presented as a spot intensifier. 6, record 100, English, - cathode%2Dray%20tube%20display
