SLAB LEVEL [3 records]

Record 1 2013-10-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Earthmoving
  • Tunnels, Overpasses and Bridges
  • Long-Distance Pipelines
DEF

An underground construction involving open-cut excavation followed by covering over to original ground level with a slab or arch structure supported on side walls.

OBS

cut-and-cover construction: term and definition proposed by the World Road Association

French

Domaine(s)
  • Terrassement
  • Tunnels, viaducs et ponts
  • Canalisations à grande distance
DEF

Record 2 2012-08-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
CONT

After a soft slab release, disintegration of the slab and air entrainment are very rapid and as the avalanche develops much of the mass is suspended well above ground level. As a result of the increased mean distance between snow particles in the flowing/air suspension, flow height increases, velocity increases, the avalanche assumes the form of a fluid... In some cases a large mass of the flowing snow is whirled into suspension and held above ground level by turbulence as a powder avalanche. The denser mass, comprised of large snow particles, remains closer to the ground and is called a flowing avalanche.

OBS

Most avalanches have a flowing component which consists of relatively dense snow flowing down the slope.

PHR

Dry flowing avalanche.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
DEF

Record 3 2003-05-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment and Plant (Metallurgy)
CONT

The casting speed during thin slab casting is... faster than that during conventional casting, and, therefore, the mould level fluctuation could be problematic. This fluctuation arose from the unbalanced feed of the liquid steel to the mould and the local disturbance of the flow pattern in the mould. Electromagnetic brake ruler(EMBR) has been found effective in stabilizing the fluctuation and, thereby, in reducing the breakout and the transverse crack formation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Équipement et matériels (Métallurgie)
CONT
