The... stealth buoy... has been designed to lie on the ocean floor until it rises to the surface in response to a sound, such as the noise of a ship's propeller. It can monitor an area within a kilometre or two of its placement, transmit data to a receiving station, and then return to the ocean floor to wait for the next event. The air-deployable buoy is a one metre long cylinder and weighs 11-kilograms. It contains batteries, a GPS [global positioning system] device and an Iridium satellite transceiver that can communicate over very long distances, and it is designed to work to a depth of 300 metres... La bouée [...] furtive [...] a été conçue de manière à reposer sur le fond de l'océan et à s'élever jusqu'à la surface en réaction à un son, comme le bruit produit par une hélice de bateau. Elle peut surveiller une zone située à un ou deux kilomètres de l'endroit où elle se trouve, transmettre des données à une station réceptrice et retourner au fond de l'océan pour attendre la situation suivante. La bouée est largable d'un aéronef, pèse 11 kilogrammes et mesure un mètre de longueur et a la forme d'un cylindre. Elle comporte des piles, un dispositif de GPS [système mondial de localisation] et un récepteur de signaux satellite Iridium qui peut communiquer sur de très grandes distances.
