[La] stéréotaxie [est une] méthode de repérage en trois dimensions, de haute précision, principalement utilisée en neurologie et pour les tumeurs cérébrales. Par rapport à un cadre fixé à la boîte crânienne, on définit les coordonnées dans l'espace des différentes structures du cerveau situées à l'intérieur du crâne. La stéréotaxie est principalement utilisée pour les prélèvements (biopsies) de tumeurs et pour les enregistrements électriques (électrophysiologie) dans certaines régions du cerveau.
