Aircraft refuelling and defuelling is controlled by a separate subsystem within the overall fuel system. The aircraft is fuelled by means of a refuelling receptacle that connects to the refuelling tanker. From the receptacle it enters a refuelling gallery which distributes the incoming fuel to the various aircraft tanks. The control of fuel entry into each tank is undertaken by valves that are under the control of the fuel management system. 1, record 5, English, - aircraft%20refuelling

Many spacecraft use small rockets called thrusters to move around in space. Thrusters can change the speed and direction of a spacecraft. They allow a spacecraft to steer in space, to jump to a higher orbit, or to fall back to Earth. 4, record 16, English, - thruster

The propulsion subsystem featured sets of small thrusters and a main engine. The thrusters were used to perform Odyssey's attitude control and trajectory correction manoeuvres, while the main engine was used to place the spacecraft in orbit around Mars. The main engine, which used hydrazine propellant with nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidiser, produced a minimum thrust of 65. 3 kilograms of force. Each of the four thrusters used for attitude control produce a thrust of 0. 1 kilogram of force. Four 2. 3-kilogram-force thrusters were used for turning the spacecraft. In addition to miscellaneous tubing, pyro valves and filters, the propulsion subsystem also included a single gaseous helium tank used to pressurise the fuel and oxidiser tanks. The propulsion subsystem weighed 49. 7 kilograms. 4, record 16, English, - thruster

The thermal control subsystem is a key system on which the successful performance of the spacecraft ultimately depends. Electronics equipment must operate within a relatively narrow temperature band if proper functioning is to be achieved and thermal failure avoided. The Extendible Support Structure(ESS) deploys and supports the SAR antenna panels in its mission configuration. The ESS assembly consists of an Electronic Control Unit(ECU), a drive mechanism assembly, and two identical independently-deployable wing assemblies. Each wing includes a deployment mechanism, a truss structure supporting two SAR antenna panels, and a variety of sensors. The ESS subsystem also includes command and telemetry to control and monitor the ESS prior to and during deployment. During launch, the ESS is supported by the SAR antenna panels which are restrained against the Spacecraft Support Structure by Antenna Tie-Downs at six locations per wing. Deployment of the ESS is initiated by a ground command sometime after the release of the antenna tie-downs. Following deployment, the ESS is capable of supporting the SAR antenna panels such that the peak-to-peak deviation due to thermo-elastic distortion is not greater than 1. 1 mm over the entire antenna surface. 4, record 35, English, - extendible%20support%20structure

2, record 40, French, - gyroscope%20de%20verticale%20%C3%A0%20semi%2Dconducteur

The Extravehicular Mobility Unit(EMU) consists of an integrated Space Suit Assembly(SSA) and Life Support Subsystem(LSS) with other crew items designed for Extravehicular Activity(EVA) outside the shuttle Space Transportation System(STS) orbiter or ISS. The NASA EMU provides life support functions, such as oxygen supply, carbon dioxide removal, a pressurized enclosure, temperature control and micrometeoroid protection, so astronauts can leave their shirtsleeve environment and work effectively in space. 4, record 41, English, - extravehicular%20mobility%20unit

Record number: 41, Textual support number: 1 OBS
