CONT

Polyethersulfone is a new high-temperature engineering thermoplastic with an outstanding long-term resistance to creep at temperatures up to 150°C. It is also capable of being used continuously under load at temperatures of up to about 180°C and, in some low-stress applications, up to 200°C.... While the sulfone group confers high-temperature performance, the ether linkage contributes toward practical processing by allowing mobility of the polymer chain when in the melt phase.... Polyethersulfone is especially resistant to acids, alkalies, oils, greases, and aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols. It is attacked by ketones, esters, and some halogenated and aromatic hydrocarbons.

CONT

Polyether Sulfone. This resin is a new high-temperature polymer capable of continuous use at 180°C and in low-stress applications at 200°C.... The material is self-extinguishing and emits little smoke. It is used in lamp sockets, gearboxes, dryers, irons, heaters, and aircraft components.

OBS

Thermoplastic: Polyethersulfone. Typical tradenames and suppliers: Polyethersulphone (Imperial Chemical Industries).

CONT

DEF

A synthetic thermoplastic polymer. Properties : Hard, rigid transparent solid; tensile strength 10, 000 psi, d 1. 24, flexural strength 15, 000 psi, good electrical resistance, minimum creep, low expansion coefficient. Soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones and chlorinated hydrocarbons; resistant to corrosive acids and alkalies, to heat and oxidation, and to detergents, oils, and alcohols. Dimensionally stable over temperature range-100 to +148°C; tends to absorb moisture, readily processed and fabricated. Combustible but self-extinguishing. Derivation : Condensation of bis-phenol A and dichlorophenyl sulfone. Use : Power-tool housings, electrical equipment, extruded pipe and sheet, auto components, electronic parts, appliances, computer components, base matrix for stereotype printing plates.

DEF

CONT

Polyaryl sulfone offers the unique combination of thermoplasticity and retention of structurally useful properties at 500°. This material is supplied in both pellet and powder form. Its thermoplastic nature allows it to be fabricated by injection molding or extrusion techniques on standard commercially available equipment. Polyaryl sulfone consists mainly of phenyl and biphenyl groups linked by thermally stable ether and sulfone groups. It is distinguished from polysulfone polymers by the absence of aliphatic groups, which are liable to oxidative attack. This aromatic structure gives it excellent resistance to oxidative degradation and accounts for its retention of mechanical properties at high temperatures.

CONT

Polyaryl sulfone. A strong, hard, stiff plastic which can be used from-400 to +500°F, this polymer is used mostly in aerospace applications.... This plastic is often used to upgrade other plastic applications with respect to temperature and to replace metals and ceramics in valve bodies, hydraulic seals, and bearings.

CONT

Poly(aryl sulfone) was introduced in 1983 and is available from Amoco Performance Products under the trade names Radel A-100, A-200, and A-300. It is suitable for high technology applications, including such electrical/electronic parts as printed-circuit boards, snap-fit connectors, and lamp housings.
