Hub-center steering(HCS) is one of several different types of front end suspension/steering mechanisms used in motorcycles and cargo bicycles. Hub-center steering is characterized by the steering pivot points being inside the hub of the wheel, rather than above the wheel in the headstock as in the traditional layout.

The swing-arm rapidly superseded the widely used but technically poor plunger type rear suspension in the 1950s. It was long customary for the swing-arm to comprise simply a cross-tube to house the pivot bearings, and a pair of side tubes to support the wheel and suspension struts.

Front suspension refinements include anti-lift geometry and revised shock valving to minimize front-end lift, increased caster angle to 3, suspension geometry that moves the theoretical steering pivot point toward the centerline of the tire, and redesigned lower suspension-arm bushing rates to control ball-joint and steering-arm position under shock load.
