SUSPENSION POLYMERIZATION [3 records]

Record 1 2016-11-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

A polymer of styrene.

CONT

Polystyrene is made by bulk or suspension polymerization of styrene.... Its major characteristics include rigidity, transparency, high refractive index, no taste, odor, or toxicity, good electrical insulation characteristics, low water absorption, and ease of coloring and processing. It is, however, attacked by hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and essential oils. A more serious limitation of polystyrene in many applications is its brittleness.

OBS

polystyrene; PS: term, abbreviation and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
DEF

Polymère du styrène.

CONT

OBS

PS, por sus siglas en inglés.

OBS

suspension polymerization : term and definition standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • suspension polymerisation

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Plasturgie
DEF

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Ingenieria química

Record 3 2014-04-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Rubber Processing
  • Plastics Manufacturing
  • Synthetic Fabrics
DEF

Suspension polymerization in which emulsifying agents are used to disperse and stabilize the monomer as very fine droplets, resulting in the production of a latex.

OBS

emulsion polymerization: term and definition standardized by ISO [International Organization for Standardization].

Key term(s)
  • emulsion polymerisation

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Fabrication du caoutchouc
  • Plasturgie
  • Textiles artificiels et synthétiques
DEF
