The cooling water filling the reactor vessel, heated by the core, gets hotter and its pressure rises. A relief valve at the top of the pressurizer tank-the so-called pilot-operated relief valve(PORV)-opens automatically, steam escapes. But the temperature and pressure of the water in the primary system continue to rise because heat generated by uranium fission in the reactor's core is no longer being removed from the reactor cooling water in the steam generator. 1, record 2, English, - pilot%2Doperated%20relief%20valve

1, record 2, French, - vanne%20de%20d%C3%A9charge%20%C3%A9lectropneumatique

A thermal relief valve is similar to a regular system relief valve; however, such valves are installed in parts of the hydraulic system where fluid pressure is trapped and may need to be relieved because of the increase caused by higher temperatures. During the flight of an airplane, it is quite likely that fluid in many of the hydraulic lines will be at a low temperature. When the airplane lands, this cold fluid will be trapped in the landing-gear system, the flap system, and other systems, because selector valves are in the neutral or OFF position. The fluid-temperature increase owing to warm air on the ground results in fluid expansion and could cause damage unless thermal relief valves are adjusted to pressures which are above those required for the operation of the systems; hence they do not interfere with normal operation. 2, record 3, English, - thermal%20relief%20valve

Boil-off. When liquid propellants are stored at temperatures above their boiling-point they vaporize. If we contain the vapors in the tank, then the pressure increases with temperature. Since the tank weight increases with design pressure, a pressure relief valve is generally provided to prevent the tank from over pressurizing and exploding. When the relief valve releases the pressure, some of the propellant escapes from the tank. This lost propellant is referred to as boil-off loss. 2, record 4, English, - boil%2Doff

Displays and Control Module (DCM). This is an irregularly shaped box of switches, valves, and digital displays that gets mounted on the chest. It controls the primary life support system and the secondary oxygen pack. 2, record 5, English, - display%20and%20control%20module

Displays and Control Module(DCM)... Along the top are switches for power, communications mode selection, caution and warning. There is also a switch that controls the water that is fed to the Liquid Cooling-and-Ventilation Garment. A digital display is used to monitor the various suit circuits. At the top left of this module is an emergency relief valve. If the primary life support system were to ever malfunction, the astronaut would still have access to the secondary oxygen pack. To activate this secondary oxygen pack, all the astronaut would have to do is open a purge valve by squeezing a set of pinchers. This valve releases air pressure on the chest plate-this is the same valve that is used at the end of EVA [Extravehicular Activity] to depressurize the suit. Also on the left, a step down from the purge valve, is the mechanical-suit pressure gauge. Along the right-hand side of the module, are two switches : the ventilation-fan switch and the push-to-talk switch. The ventilation-fan switch can activate and deactivate a fan which circulates air through the helmet and other parts of the suit. The push-to-talk switch is similar to one you would find on a CB [Citizen Band] radio. If the astronaut wants to talk, he has to push the button to be heard, and if he wants to receive voice messages, he has to release the button. On the front of the panel are other controls for volume, temperature, and suit pressure. 2, record 5, English, - display%20and%20control%20module
