The gyros are used to maintain the platform's inertial orientation by sensing rotations of the platform caused by vehicle-rotation-induced friction at the gimbal pivot points... One gyro-called the vertical gyro-is oriented so its input axes are aligned with the X and Y platform axes; its input axes provide IMU [Inertial Measurement Unit] platform roll and pitch stabilization. The second gyro is oriented so that one input axis lies along the platform's Z axis and the other lies in the X-Y plane. An error signal is obtained differencing the signal from the azimuth gyroscope and a constant level settable from the telemetry, which controls the speed of rotation. Such error signal drives an analog PID [Proportional Integral Differential] circuit; the output of the PID is connected to the PWM [Pulse Width Modulation] driver supplying current to the pivot azimuth motors.

Flight loads are not directly measured, but are determined through correlation with measured strains, pressures or accelerations. The load intensities and distributions derived from flight testing should be compared with those obtained from analytical methods. The uncertainties in both the flight testing measurements and subsequent correlation should be carefully considered and compared with the inherent assumptions and capabilities of the process used in analytic derivation of flight loads. Since in most cases the flight test points are not the limit design load conditions, new analytical load cases need to be generated to match the actual flight test data points.

A useful plot, used in igneous petrology to show variations between two rocks or rock types for a wide range of elements.

Usually, one rock is a standard type, e. g. a mid-oceanic-ridge basalt or a carbonaceous chondrite meteorite. Data for the test rock are "normalized" to the standard by dividing the abundance for each element by the abundance in the standard and plotting the quotient, usually in order of atomic number. Elements which have the same abundance in the test rock as in the standard yield a quotient of 1; if the two compositions were identical the plot would be a straight line through 1 on the y axis. Elements more abundant in the test rock yield numbers greater than 1; those less abundant yield numbers less than 1. By connecting the points plotted by a single line, a spidery diagram of peaks and troughs is obtained which illustrates immediately systematic differences in composition, e. g. relative enrichment in incompatible elements.

The system-level structural qualification was therefore limited to a modal survey test to validate the ERA [European Robotic Arm] Finite Element Model, followed by a boosted modal survey test. This test programme is designed to qualify the ERA subsystem interfaces and the ERA and Russian launcher interface points that had not previously been subjected to qualification load levels in lower level test programmes. During the boosted modal survey test, ERA was mounted on a special vibration adapter in the Large European Acoustic Facility, with a set of flight-representative Russian launch fixation brackets(Fig. 6). ERA's natural frequencies were excited by mini-shakers at several load points. The strains were closely monitored to prevent overloading the flight hardware.

The flutterometer is an on-line tool that indicates a measure of distance to flutter in terms of a flight condition during a flight test. The measure of distance is computed as a robust flutter margin by applying method analysis to consider the worst-case effects of modeling uncertainty. Th approach is to update the robust flutter margin at a series of test points by analyzing flight data. The flutterometer was used during an envelope expansion of the Aerostructures Test Wing.

L'outil vient d'être validé sur un prototype de voilure en carbone de 45 cm d'envergure monté sous le F-15B d'essais de Dryden. Équipée d'actionneur piézo-électriques de surface chargés d'exciter le flottement, la voilure a été poussée jusqu'à sa rupture sur le tiers de son envergure. Les essais comprenaient cinq vols effectués jusqu'à la vitesse de Mach 0,85 et à l'altitude de 3,000 m. Le logiciel permet d'analyser le phénomène en temps réel, de déterminer les caractéristiques de stabilité d'un avion en vol et de préciser les zones dangereuses. Le «Flutterometer» met à profit des modélisations du flottement corrélé avec des mesures du phénomène.

Parallel Circuits-A parallel circuit is one in which the electric detonators are connected to two common points. Each detonator in a connexion of this kind offers a path for the electric current independent of all the other detonators in the circuit, and therefore calls for a higher amperage requirement than a series circuit in which there is but one path.... A parallel circuit is characterized by comparatively low voltage and high amperage requirements, and because of this it is advisable to use a heavier shot-firing cable. The disadvantage is that it is not possible to test the circuit as a whole by means of a circuit tester.
