The therapeutic use of bacteriophages to treat pathogenic bacterial infections. 4, record 3, English, - phage%20therapy

Bacteriophages are much more specific than antibiotics, so they can hypothetically be chosen to be indirectly harmless not only to the host organism(human, animal, or plant), but also to other beneficial bacteria, such as gut flora, reducing the chances of opportunistic infections. They would have a high therapeutic index, that is, phage therapy would be expected to give rise to few side effects. Because phages replicate in vivo, a smaller effective dose can be used. On the other hand, this specificity is also a disadvantage : a phage will only kill a bacterium if it is a match to the specific strain. Consequently phage mixtures are often applied to improve the chances of success, or samples can be taken and an appropriate phage identified and grown. 4, record 3, English, - phage%20therapy

2, record 3, French, - phagoth%C3%A9rapie
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
3, record 3, French, - phagoth%C3%A9rapie

Although, the drug delivery system(DDS) concept is not new, great progress has recently been made in the treatment of a variety of diseases. Targeting delivery of drugs to the diseased lesions is one of the most important aspects of DDS. To convey a sufficient dose of drug to the lesion, suitable carriers of drugs are needed. Nano and microparticle carriers have important potential applications for the administration of therapeutic molecules. 1, record 4, English, - drug%20delivery%20system

7, record 4, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20lib%C3%A9ration%20de%20m%C3%A9dicaments

Transderm-V(scopolamine) transdermal therapeutic system is a circular flat unit designed for continuous release of scopolamine following application to an area of intact skin behind the ear... An initial priming dose of scopolamine, released from the adhesive layer of the system, saturates the skin binding sites for the drug and brings the plasma concentration to the required steady-state level. Subsequently, there is continuous controlled release of scopolamine, from the drug reservoir through the rate controlling membrane. 1, record 5, English, - transdermal

A reduced rate of release may be desirable for several reasons. Where a prolonged action is required it is desirable that the dosage form provides a slow and constant supply of the drug. The active component is given in a larger dose and released at a rate which is safe and which maintains therapeutic blood concentrations for a prolonged period. Where a high local concentration of an irritant drug causes tissue necrosis and ulceration of the mucosal wall, damage can largely be prevented by reducing the rate of drug release. Many dose forms have been developed to achieve these aims. They are variously described as 'sustained-release’, ’prolonged-action’, ’timed-release’, or other similar terms. 3, record 9, English, - slow%2Drelease
