Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The process of telemetry involves the transmission of data from a source to a receiver typically by radio frequency electromagnetic means. Telemetry has been successfully used in biomedical applications to permit the remote monitoring of patients. An example of a useful signal to be remotely monitored is the electrocardiogram(ECG). A transmitter attached to a patient sends an ECG signal to a remote receiver where it is decoded and monitored. Such biomedical telemetry permits the patient greater mobility than if he were attached to a stationary monitor, thus enhancing the therapeutic benefits from patient mobility. 1, record 1, English, - biomedical%20telemetry

This technique was first brought to our attention as a modern healing method by Dolores Krieger, Ph. D., R. For gene therapy to realize its clinical potential, there must be efficient and safe strategies of delivering therapeutic genes to somatic cells in vivo. Perhaps this problem simply represents a special case of drug delivery in which the therapeutic gene constitutes the drug. But the relevance of traditional drug development to technological developments in gene therapy is questionable. Recombinant genes that can independently express a therapeutic RNA or protein are extraordinarily large and polar molecules--10, 000 times larger than traditional pharmaceutical agents. Moreover, the administration of genes as therapy requires vehicles--so-called vectors--that encapsulate the gene and guide it to the target cell. The binding of the gene to the cell, its internalization, the transport of the administered genome to the nucleus, and the expression of the gene all constitute potential limitations of this process. 1, record 16, English, - therapeutic%20gene

1, record 17, French, - g%C3%A8ne%20consid%C3%A9r%C3%A9%20comme%20m%C3%A9dicament

The Food and Drug Administration has already authorized studies to evaluate the safety and biological activity of several types of systems. Therapeutic touch... is based on the belief that there is an energy field radiating outward almost five centimetres from the body. The flow of energy can be fast, slow, congested, pulsating, pounding, quiet or tangled. An experienced practitioner can feel and access [this] energy and... use rhythmic hand strokes above the skin's surface to smooth the energy field to a rhythm of harmony. Therapeutic touch is being used in delivery rooms, palliative care units and AIDS hospices. The College of Nurses of Ontario has recognized it as a healing strategy. [It is] not a cure and is only used as a complement to traditional medical treatment....
