Subject field(s)
  • Mathematics
  • Computer Graphics
  • Acoustics (Physics)
CONT

A more complicated kind of scaling noise is one that is sometimes called Brownian noise because it is characteristic of Brownian motion, the random movements of small particles suspended in a liquid and buffeted by the thermal agitation of molecules.

DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
DEF

Small, random, white spots produced on a television or radar screen by inherent noise signals originating in the receiver.

CONT

... noise has its most deleterious effect on reception quality when it occurs in the input circuitry of the receiver, since this is usually where the basic signal-to-noise ratio is established. The generation of noise in this area is principally caused by thermal agitation in resistive input components. When the incoming signal is too weak to override this noise, a visual effect is displayed on the picture tube that is commonly referred to as snow. Although there are other types of noise that produce different visual effects, snow is the most common visual effect.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Energy (Physics)
  • Atomic Physics
CONT

It has been well established in pure and applied chemistry of simple molecules that reaction energies at room temperature can be understood in terms of two contributions, one related to energy differences at 0 K [Kelvin](the innate inherent chemical bond energy) and the other associated with integrals of heat capacity data over a range of temperatures(the thermal agitation energy). The necessity of a comparable separation of energy terms for biological reactions, however, has not been obvious to most workers in structural and molecular biology.

DEF

the potential difference across an electric double layer usually between solid surface and a liquid.

CONT

At a solid-liquid interface in a colloid system a composite double layer in the liquid in contact with the solid surface is called an electrical double layer. The inner layer is a bound layer of ions. The outer layer is diffuse and consists of ions of the opposite sign which are subject to thermal agitation. There is a potential difference across the diffuse layer between the bulk of the solution and the bound layer, known as the electrokinetic potential or zeta potential.
