THERMAL AGITATION ENERGY [3 records]

CONT

It has been well established in pure and applied chemistry of simple molecules that reaction energies at room temperature can be understood in terms of two contributions, one related to energy differences at 0 K [Kelvin](the innate inherent chemical bond energy) and the other associated with integrals of heat capacity data over a range of temperatures(the thermal agitation energy). The necessity of a comparable separation of energy terms for biological reactions, however, has not been obvious to most workers in structural and molecular biology.

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A neutron of kinetic energy greater than that of thermal agitation.

OBS

The term is often restricted to energies just above thermal, that is, energies comparable with those of chemical bonds.

OBS

epithermal neutron: term and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

Neutron d'énergie cinétique supérieure à celle de l'agitation thermique.

OBS

L'emploi de ce terme est souvent limité aux énergies juste au-dessus du domaine thermique, c'est-à-dire aux énergies comparables à celles des liaisons chimiques.

OBS

neutron épithermique : terme et définition normalisés par l'ISO.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A nuclear reaction in which the participating particles obtain the required kinetic energy from thermal agitation. The term usually applies to nuclear fusion reaction.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

Réaction nucléaire dans laquelle l'énergie cinétique des particules en jeu provient de l'agitation thermique. Ce terme s'applique habituellement à une réaction de fusion nucléaire.
