Enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of a [beta]-(1,4)-glycosidic bond between the N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine residues of the mucopeptide found in the cell walls of many bacteria. This action weakens the covalent structure of the wall and reduces its resistance to osmotic swelling, as a result of which the cells burst. 3, record 1, English, - lysozyme
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
By recombinant DNA techniques, a disulfide bond was introduced at a specific site in T4 lysozyme, a disulfide-free enzyme. This derivative retained full enzymatic activity and was more stable toward thermal inactivation than the wild-type protein. The derivative, T4 lysozyme(Ile3-> Cys), was prepared by substituting a Cys codon for an Ile codon at position 3 in the cloned lysozyme gene by means of oligonucleotide-dependent, site-directed mutagenesis. 4, record 1, English, - lysozyme

Enzymes immobilized on inorganic supports by covalent attachment show unique pH optimums, thermal profiles and kinetics. Organic functional groups are covalently attached to the support using a silane coupling agent.... The most common silane coupling agent used is [gamma]-aminopropyltriethoxy-silane. Silanes such as this react with any available oxide or hydroxide groups on the surface of glass, ceramics or metal oxides.... Once an alkylamine group has been attached to the inorganic support it takes only standard organic coupling reactions to covalently bond the protein of interest. 2, record 2, English, - silane%20coupling%20agent

It has been well established in pure and applied chemistry of simple molecules that reaction energies at room temperature can be understood in terms of two contributions, one related to energy differences at 0 K [Kelvin](the innate inherent chemical bond energy) and the other associated with integrals of heat capacity data over a range of temperatures(the thermal agitation energy). The necessity of a comparable separation of energy terms for biological reactions, however, has not been obvious to most workers in structural and molecular biology. 1, record 4, English, - thermal%20agitation%20energy

In the electronics industry high-temperature cements are often used for fastening thermocouples, strain gages, and similar devices to surfaces that are often comprised of ceramic materials, many of which may be magnesium-oxide based. For lower temperatures(on the order of a few hundred degrees Celsius), a number of high-temperature epoxies are available. In addition to its ability to withstand the temperatures to which it will be subjected, the important characteristics of a high-temperature cement include its coefficient of thermal expansion(which should be as close as possible to those of the materials it is to join), ability to adhere to the materials it is to join, bond strength, resistance to the environment to which it will be exposed, etc. 1, record 7, English, - high%2Dtemperature%20cement

Today it is possible to bond most the... materials with synthetic adhesives. The essential difference is not found in the formation of a sufficient adhesive strength to the adherends but in the properties of the adhesive layers formed by them under mechanical stress or long term influences.... The connection between the deformation properties of the adherends and the adhesive layers must be considered. For materials with a high deformation capacity under stress and/or different thermal expansion properties adhesives with flexible properties in the adhesive layer should be used and vice versa(within certain limits the thickness of the adhesive layer can be increased). 2, record 8, English, - adhesive%20layer
