THERMAL BREAKDOWN [3 records]

Record 1 2025-04-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
CONT

Matrix effects can be divided into two kinds, physical and chemical. Physical matrix effects depend on the physical properties of the sample and generally relate to the ablation step of LIBS [laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy]. That is, differences between the specific heat, latent heat of vaporization, thermal conductivity, absorption, etc., of different matrices can change the amount of an element ablated from one matrix compared with another matrix even though the properties of the ablation laser pulse remain constant.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
CONT

Les effets de matrice physiques sont liés aux propriétés physiques du matériau ablaté (température de vaporisation, absorbance à la longueur d'onde du laser utilisé...).

English

Subject field(s)
  • Lasers and Masers
  • Surgery
  • Non-Surgical Treatment
CONT

The light absorption can cause three different types of biological effects in the skin : photomechanical, photothermal and photochemical. The photomechanical effect occurs when very short laser pulses, nanoseconds for the Q-switched [quality-switched] laser or picoseconds for the picosecond laser, produce very strong energies; in this way the tissue undergoes rapid thermal expansion, and an optical breakdown with intense shockwaves.

Domaine(s)
  • Masers et lasers
  • Chirurgie
  • Traitements non chirurgicaux
CONT

L'utilisation de laser ayant une durée d'émission très brève [...] génère, au niveau du tissu, des effets photomécaniques.

Key term(s)
  • effet photo-mécanique
