The MHD(magnetohydrodynamic) generator... transforms thermal energy or kinetic energy directly into electricity. MHD generators are different from traditional electric generators in that they can operate at high temperatures without moving parts. MHD was eagerly developed because the exhaust of a plasma MHD generator is a flame, still able to heat the boilers of a steam power plant. So high-temperature MHD was developed as a topping cycle to increase the efficiency of electric generation, especially when burning coal or natural gas. It has also been applied to pump liquid metals and for quiet submarine engines. 1, record 6, English, - magnetohydrodynamic%20generator

The Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing subsector is based on the transformation of crude petroleum and coal into usable products. The dominant process is petroleum refining that involves the separation of crude petroleum into component products through such techniques as cracking and distillation. In addition, this subsector includes establishments that primarily further process refined petroleum and coal products and produce products, such as asphalt coatings and petroleum lubricating oils. However, establishments that manufacture petrochemicals from refined petroleum are classified in Industry 32511, Petrochemical Manufacturing. 3, record 9, English, - refined%20petroleum%20and%20coal%20products

Compared to existing coal power plants, clean coal technology(CCT) plants have the potential to both increase the competitiveness and environmental acceptance of coal, through increased overall thermal efficiency and reduced emissions of GHG [greenhouse gas] and other air pollutants. Given the importance of coal-based energy to the global economy and the need to reduce emissions, nations throughout the world are accelerating the development of a host of CCTs including new chemical processes that extract energy from coal in the form of electricity, heat and synthesis gas(H2 and CO) with near zero pollutant emissions. 2, record 10, English, - clean%20coal%20technology

The new 524-megawatt power plant in Hindman, Kentucky, will use so-called clean coal technology, which generates significantly more pollution than natural gas-fired power plants and renewable energy sources, such as wind, biomass, solar and geothermal energy. The plant, which is expected to be in operation by 2004, will emit annually more than 1,000 pounds of mercury, a potent neurotoxin. By comparison, natural gas-fired plants and renewable energy sources emit no mercury. "The term ’clean coal’ is like saying ’safe cigarettes,’" said Hawkins. 2, record 10, French, - technologie%20du%20charbon%20%C3%A9pur%C3%A9

The Double Arch Downfired, or W Flame Furnace ... is the proven way to efficiently self-combust anthracites in Central Station steam generators. ... FW Ball Mills receive coal on each end, from bins and feeders located overhead ... Primary air coming from air heaters enters each mill end and dries the coal. Once the coal is ground and classified, the air pneumatically transports it towards the arch cyclone burners ... A "W" shaped flame forms in the lower furnace (volume below the arches). Gases then continue their upward move through the conventional upper furnace. In the FW arch fired technology, only a fraction of the air enters the furnace through the arch; the bulk of the air is fed to the furnace through slots in the vertical walls located directly below the arches. 2, record 11, English, - double%2Darch%20furnace%20boiler
