Duplex stainless steels, consisting of approximately equal amounts of austenite and ferrite, often combine the best features of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. They generally have good mechanical properties, including high strength and ductility, and the corrosion resistance is often better than conventional austenitic grades. This has lead to a growing use of duplex stainless steels as a material in mechanically loaded constructions. However, detailed knowledge regarding its mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms are still lacking. In this project special emphasis has been placed on the residual stresses and their influence on mechanical behaviour of duplex stainless steels. Due to the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion between the two phases, tensile microstresses are found in the austenitic phase and balancing compressive microstresses in the ferritic phase. 2, record 11, English, - austenitic%20phase

3, record 11, French, - phase%20aust%C3%A9nitique

In the electronics industry high-temperature cements are often used for fastening thermocouples, strain gages, and similar devices to surfaces that are often comprised of ceramic materials, many of which may be magnesium-oxide based. For lower temperatures(on the order of a few hundred degrees Celsius), a number of high-temperature epoxies are available. In addition to its ability to withstand the temperatures to which it will be subjected, the important characteristics of a high-temperature cement include its coefficient of thermal expansion(which should be as close as possible to those of the materials it is to join), ability to adhere to the materials it is to join, bond strength, resistance to the environment to which it will be exposed, etc. 1, record 12, English, - high%2Dtemperature%20cement

Both stress and temperature changes alter the dimensions of an object having a finite stiffness and a nonzero thermal expansion coefficient. Applying a stress then produces a temperature change; this can result in a heat flow which then changes the stress : these are thermoelastic effects, and result in losses of free energy. 1, record 14, English, - thermoelastic

There are basically three types of pilot burners: 1) the millivolt; 2) the bi metal; and 3) the liquid filled. ...The bimetal pilot is named so because of the sensing element. The sensing element is made of two dissimilar metals welded together so that they become one piece. The two metals have different expansion rates and this causes the two metals to bend when heated. As the bimetal element is heated by the pilot flame, a movable contact is pushed toward a stationary contact. When these contacts touch, an electrical circuit is completed through them. This control is usually employed to operate in the control, or low voltage, circuit. 1, record 15, English, - bimetal%20pilot
