English

Subject field(s)
  • Wheels (Mechanical Components)
  • General Hardware
CONT

Casters are essentially housings that include a wheel and a mounting to install the caster to objects(equipment, apparatus and more). Casters are found virtually everywhere, from office desk chairs to shipyards, and from hospital beds to automotive factories. They range in size from the very small furniture casters to massive industrial casters... Wheel materials include cast iron, plastic, rubber, polyurethane, polyolefin, nylon, thermoplastic rubber, forged steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and more.

OBS

Casters come in two main categories: a swivel caster pivots around a kingpin to allow it to rotate and roll. The rigid (also called "fixed") caster has its wheel mounted in a fixed frame ... and it only rolls forward and backward.

Subject field(s)
  • Electric Cables
CONT

What is the difference between thermoplastic and thermoset insulation in electrical cables? The plastic or polymers used in cable insulation are either thermoplastic or thermoset.... Thermoset materials are... softened by heating and can be shaped and then cooled to retain a new shape; however, unlike thermoplastic material, it is only possible to do this once. This is due to a chemical reaction that has taken place during the polymerisation.

OBS

thermoset insulation: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

DEF

A mould in which the runners are kept at a temperature that is higher than the solidification temperature of the material.

CONT

Hot runner molds. Thermoplastic runners are reground and reused. A logical extension of the three-plate mold overcomes this and is called a hot runner mold. This mold has a hot runner plate, which is a block of steel heated with electric cartridges, thermostatically controlled. This keeps the plastic fluid. The material is received from the injection cylinder and is forced through the hot runner blocks into the cavities. It is a more difficult mold to build and operate than a three-plate mold, but produces parts less expensively on longer-running jobs.

OBS

In injection moulding.

DEF

A very thin rectangular gate with a length equal to the width of the moulding, situated in the mating surface of a mould.

CONT

Edge gating is the most common. It can be of the large or the restricted type. If the edge gate is spread out, it is called a fan gate. If the gate is extended for a considerable length of the piece and connected by a thin section of plastic, it is called a flash gate. In thermoplastic molding, it is sometimes necessary for the gate to impinge upon a wall. This distributes the material move evenly and improves surface conditions. If walls are not available, a rectangular tab is milled into the piece and the gate is attached there. This is called a tab gate.

OBS

edge gate: term and definition standardized by ISO [International Organization for Standardization].

CONT

PETG, glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate, is a copolyester that is a clear amorphous thermoplastic. PETG sheet has high stiffness, hardness, and toughness as well as good impact strength. Unstressed PETG exhibits good resistance to dilute aqueous solutions of mineral acids, bases, salts, and soaps. PETG also has good resistance to aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, and a variety of oils. Halogenated hydrocarbons, low molecular weight ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbons dissolve or swell this plastic. PETG does not contain a UV inhibitor and it is not suggested for use in applications involving continuous long-term outdoor exposure.

CONT

For basic extrusion blow-molding applications, a noncrystalline glycol modified polyester called PETG has been formulated; however, its noncrystalline molecular structure does not permit biaxial orientation.

CONT

Amorphous PETG copolyester must be dried below its glass-transition temperature of 176°F (80°C). It can be injection molded at 420-435°F (216-224°C).

  • Matières plastiques
OBS

Polyester non cristallin modifié par du glycol.

CONT
